Uhh owl is a big patience boss. You can be too aggressive with him and you can also be too passive. You can't expect to get in more than one hit after a chain of deflects. You just have to be comfy slowly withering him away.

Generally, with any weapon, it's better to stick to one damage stat when you're at level 80

If you're two handing it I would actually try respeccing your dex points into strength after you get some larval tears. When two handing a weapon, you get the strength scaling you'd get at 1.5x your level. So you'd get a lot more damage out of a heavy infusion at 25 strength than keen at 25 dex.

Otherwise, if you're holding a shield in your off hand most of the time, I would just stick with dex.

Another thing you can do is just expirement with where you can get hits in. Like play a few rounds in the ring where you focus down staying alive and getting damage in a secondary goal. Then try that with his lightning phase.

I promise you can beat him.

Level your spirit ash too if you can.

(Also the lightning strike thing where he pulls his arm down/fist pumps and u get struck you can dodge by timing ur roll right when he pumps)

Tree sentinel is just tough to learn, you have to get a little better at dodging and a little better at finding time to use the flask. I used to burn 4-5 flasks trying to heal from the fireballs before I realized i could dodge through them.

The katana is good try spamming heavy unsheath you'll get poise breaks in.

Also, try looking for some better armor, the knight armor isn't bad but I don't think it's lightning resistance is great. The leyndell knights and soldiwra should drop some decent armor - and there's a carian knight set hidden in Raya lucaria.

Also , try a shield!

Literally this, when an enemy deflects your attack and intends to attack there is a different effect that will be played, fight lady butterfly and listen for it.

Clean but you're missing a lot of opportunities to get a shot in. Also why not just wear some better armor? Is your endurance that low? It might help mitigate the getting popped so quickly thing.

Do jozuo after you finish ashina Castle and have at least two prayer necklaces and two attack power upgrades. Him and that which follows in hirata estate, is maybe mechanically less difficult but you need the boosts in attack power and health to take them down, especially on your first go.

And yeah alcoholic joseph is a stealth boss as much as he is an hp sponge boss. Take out his goons first, upgrade your stealth all the way on the skill tree if you have to.

Make a point to get good at deflecting his slow swings. Spamming wont work, and the posture damage really starts to rack up after you get his health down a little. And getting in those perfect deflects gives you some openings.

And always always beat the shit out of him when he's drinking or puking on his sword. He locks into those animations, and it's a great time to get some hits off.

You just can't freak out and act on "oh I'm about to get him i just have to rush him" or "oh God I took a hit i have to get off a heal now"

If you have it unlocked, try using yashurikus spiritfall. Just see what happens. And also, yeah, dash under the third hit of Sakura dance. It's an easy hit on his health bar.
