I’m so sorry she used the dreaded shearing tools. I had this happen to me a couple years ago. One of my friends teased and said “she cut your hair like Edward Scissorhands”. My heart goes out to you - with time and patience your luscious curls will grow back. It’s so maddening

Acne is ruining everything

Accutane saved me as well following a horrific cystic breakout after the birth of my daughter in my early thirties. I went through 2 dermatologists before finding my lifesaver. This was in the early 90’s when lots of old school derms were afraid to prescribe it. He took one look at me and said we’ll try one course of short term antibiotics and you’re going straight to Accutane in order to keep scarring to the minimum.
I did all the bloodwork follow up, wore my hat and sunscreen when outside. It was a miracle for me. No bad side effects & the scarring was not bad at all. I followed up with regular facials and did a Jessner peel a few years later.
I saw him when my daughter was a teen as she struggled a bit. He was shocked how great my skin healed.
Keep at it - find someone to listen to you and follow instructions carefully. Sending you the best of luck and healing thoughts to you

I'm losing my hair and no one is taking it seriously.

Optimal_Guitar8921

Unfortunately I also experienced hair loss as a result of a chemical reaction to the curly hair products I was using. This happened to my daughter as well.

You may want to google the products you’re using to see if there is anything online stating others experienced the same. I was using Shea for several months and when I added the leave in Milk product my hair was coming out in droves by the root. My daughter had the same issue. Mine was due to a build up of oils in the scalp. It stopped as soon as I quit using it.

Hope you find a resolve soon. It’s kind of frightening to see and feel that I understand.

What were the best things you did to heal well and fast?

Optimal_Guitar8921

Walking was the trick for me. Doing the PT exercises twice daily and walks in between. Frequently used packs of ice on the incision region. Mine was posterior, was 58/F. Best recovery after the first 3-4 weeks. The body needs time to rebalance and adjust. Hope you feel better soon

Need Help/Advice

Optimal_Guitar8921

Maybe try giving your current products a break. I was having great results with Shea until I added Shea Milk leave in conditioner & boom. Huge hair fall out in the past few washings. There’s several mentions made of this on the internet and in this sub. I’ve washed with a clarifying shampoo the past few days and now am trying the no poo shampoo method. My daughter has been having great success with it over the past several months. I was shocked at the amount lost in washing, brushing, hair ties etc. I have super curly thick fine hair and assumed this was normal shedding. Be watchful of ingredients you may have reactions too in not getting the results that you are happy with.

Cervical Fusion

Optimal_Guitar8921
commented

I’ve been unofficially diagnosed with hypermobility in the past few years. I had ACDF C4-C7 18 months ago. Was driving in 6 weeks - full range of motion and am fully fused. Unfortunately I’m still dealing with muscle spasms in left trap & shoulder region. The surgery was necessary-discs were degenerated to close to nothing with bilateral pinched nerves.

I’m in my mid sixties and never seemed to have many issues aside from a hip replacement 7 years ago that was a breeze. Sending you the best of thoughts.

I adopted my Grandmother’s cat when she passed away and we are both adjusting to life without her together. I’d like to know what breed he is; he is bigger than any cat I have had before! (i.redd.it)

Anyone tried PRP or prolotherapy?

Optimal_Guitar8921
commented

I did PRP and mesenchymal cell injections over the course of 6 months. As another comment states it was very expensive. Had short term relief for lumbar and neck issues. It’s not intradiscal therefore it wasn’t the solution for my degenerative disc disease and pain. Ended up having a 3 level cervical fusion a few months later.

Doctor said there is no pathology. I’m having severe pain left side of neck, left clavicular area, left ear, left shoulder and scapula. Surgery was 4 years ago. I’m miserable and depressed.

Interesting - yes thank you for your input. The next step was RFA to that joint as I have Retrolisthesis on that lower vertebrae that showed up in the X-ray last year, but has not been referenced in the past couple of X-rays. It is slight but somewhat visible.

I don’t feel comfortable doing the nerve burning procedure & my Surgeon didn’t support it either. Unfortunately I’ve had the spasms pre and post surgery and have a tendency to overdo things. My ROM is excellent however the side to side is constricted due to the spasms.

I’m going over everything in detail at my check up with him tomorrow morning. He and his medical team have been excellent in responding with follow up care etc. I appreciate your support & have faith that I’m moving in the right direction

Bad reaction

Optimal_Guitar8921
commented

I had it due to using Neosporin (contact dermatitis) following the discovery of a spitting suture. In addition I had a reaction to the adhesive on bandaids. Ugh - I’m so sorry it was a mess.

It healed up just fine in a few days with discontinued use. Best of luck to you

Post ACDF 7 Month Complications

My heart goes out to you - you are so young and I’m so sorry to hear of your extenuating circumstances.

I’m in my mid sixties and had issues with degenerative disc disease as well as osteoarthritis/spinal stenosis. I’ve had episodes with my neck over the years, but muscle relaxers, physical therapy, good diet and staying active was key. My discs were like “dust” and the C5-C7 nerves were pinched bilaterally. The surgeon said they were like chards of glass rubbing against the nerves. Unbelievable I had no permanent nerve damage. Unfortunately the pandemic put a lot of pressure on my work situation and forced me into an undesirable ergonomic environment. Was in the banking industry for over 40 years and had to close that chapter into early retirement. Tried everything under the sun for 2 years including PRP/stem cell injections, physical therapy before electing surgery. My Neurosurgeon is one of the best in the region if not the country and as of last November diagnostics of an MRI & flexion X-ray looked great. I’m fully fused and is believed to be muscular pain. The trapezius & burning shoulder pain you described fits me to a tee. I have some facet joint arthritis that was thought to be the issue of which a steroid injection to the C7-T1 joint did not alleviate. I see him tomorrow and will request updated diagnostics, CT scan whatever it takes to determine the root of the issue. I have extreme difficulty sleeping as the sensations wake me at night. Feels like a branding iron in my lower neck and shoulder. Seen so many physical therapists, myofascial release practitioners & therapeutic massage and as you mentioned did pain reprocessing therapy as well. I admire you for telling your story as well as your enthusiasm. It’s so true we must advocate for ourselves and navigate through this difficult journey. I can’t imagine the disappointment you’ve endured in postponing your wedding & all you’ve gone through. It’s a testimony to your strength and determination 😊 please keep us posted - I’m on the West Coast and look forward to hearing about your progress. Having a positive mindset is such an important component of the healing process & you definitely have one.
