UI Change
I didn’t ask for a new UI that literally cannot display a videos title and one that takes up my entire screen with 32pt subtitles.
I didn’t ask you to fill my suggested videos with shorts to the point that you just whack them in the middle and I need to scroll away from the video I have on screen playing to see the normal suggestions.
I didn’t ask for “games” being advertised to me when I search for videos or browse your video upload site/app.
I didn’t ask for extra large thumbnails that make it harder to find content and search.
I didn’t ask to see videos I have already watched or ones you think I’d like when I make a specific search.
I didn’t ask for you to autocorrect my searches to the point where sometimes you actually prevent me from using terms.
I didn’t ask for you to break most search modifiers and then not tell anyone.
I didn’t ask for you to try to hide the comment section from me.
I didn’t ask for you to literally on my 2k or 4K screen make it so I only get three suggested videos and not category of suggestions displayed.
Please please please stop ruining an entire video playback ecosystem I and millions/billions either pay for monthly or rely on.
Everything you change could be an optional thing but you’re forcing it on everything and everyone.
Please stop this madness

you forgot « i didn’t ask to see short videos when i’m looking for long format videos » it’s like they forcing us to watch short.
Also; I didn’t ask for you to round the corners on my videos? Somewhere a cinemaphile had a heart attack over that one .

I never used the new UI. But I have seen it and now I know why you made this post. It is just horrendous...
What annoys me is that the site runs terribly slow, loading videos takes a few seconds and scrolling through the shorts can completely freeze and you have to refresh to watch. I have 300Mbs ftth, an Intel I7-14700K processor, 32GB DDR4 and an SSD, and the site runs as if I went back 20 years and had a computer with an HDD and 5Mbs internet.
You’re correct but I find this is the norm with most other sites, apps nowadays. Still you think YouTube would want you to be programming efficient apps so they could maximise the market.
YouTube in 2024; Lots of bad changes no-one asked for that actually create a much worse experience for multiple parties for a multitude of different reasons.
It would be one thing if any of these “updates” were optional or seemed to serve a purpose or community of YouTube but honestly, all of them seem geared toward some sort of internal mandate none of us know about that I’m guessing is silly and not in our best interest as users.
What’s the end goal for rounding off & removing a videos corners, literally interfering with the content & experience? What is the positive of showing shorts in the suggested section in a way that squishes and makes the “default” view of the video you have actually chosen to watch smaller?
I can’t believe educated people with UX expertise are behind these choices since each of them have such obviously bad outcomes.
And I’m not even touching on the more “minor” functionality removal/obfuscation that has slowly been occurring over the last year or so as well. For example, you used to be able to instantly browse playlists on the left hand side menu, this functionality was removed and now you can only view “all playlists” and then need to go to a new page to see them individually. I could go on.
The only reason YouTube is trying this with no outward communication or feedback is because they know they have a monopoly on this particular content space. No other site would make such a huge amount of detrimental choices over an extended period of time with no communication between users and itself.

Still I just can’t believe a meeting was had somewhere to decide to for some reason (???) to remove the corners off of videos. It’s hilarious. It screams of a film called “The Pentagon Wars”.

It is yet another example of destroying something that works as-is to rationalize their professional expertise. If experts were not constantly enshittifying these sites, they might have to go out into the world and create something new. That "new something" would be valued by the marketplace rather than a circle-jerk committee. I'm sure that's horrifying for them.
That’s a good point, iteration of a good thing reaches a point so they just tear it down with yes men meetings to keep their jobs instead of taking risks and perhaps getting something wrong. Sigh. It’s Apple IOS all over again.

Most annoying thing for me is unable to see title and description at the same time as playlist. Also editing order of videos In playlist while it's playing
It’s ridiculous right now.
I slammed them with negative feedback reports. 50x a day and mine changed back in 3 days :)

Oh mate, I know I’m missing a lot here, this is just off the top of my head on a day where I had a particularly bad head-cold even. 😂 Like I said in another post in this chat; this type of behaviour has really been ramping up over the past year or so on the platform across most parts of it.
And I did not ask for every YouTuber to adopt clickbait to the point of not being able to distinguish any video from the next anymore.
It’s beyond a parody at this point. Be weird to see where thumbnails wind up. That ProXD guy has the right idea; he has never made a thumbnail he just chooses from the 3 options it gives you after upload. Considering his channel size, mad respect for that principled stance of his. The right hill to die on. Sigh now I’m thinking of thumbnails of the flag being raised with a red circle behind it etc. 😂
Good luck figuring out where a series begins and ends anymore. Half of the YouTubers do not even bother numbering the videos anymore.
Yeh. Sigh, imagine sitting on all the content in the world. Making it unfindable and then just not caring. 🤷♂️
Is this for mobile or desktop?
We have been talking about desktop but they have been doing a fine job messing up mobile versions of YouTube as well.
Apparently no-one says 2K. People just say 1440p
Because 2K is a nickname, 1440p is the actual resolution specification.

I must be lucky because the only thing I'm dealing with is my comments not sticking when I have the slightest bit of overcast in my city.
Could be worse. A few months ago I was used as an experiment guinea pig and had the comment section only a the tiny area on the side of the screen where suggested videos normally are.
I posted a response on my account and within 3 days was removed from the program.
I think I have had this as well. Honestly don’t feel too lucky, they might just flip a switch tomorrow and enable this “feature” again.
Considering the disdain they have for the comments I’d expect them to have little care for anything about it.
When it happened to me I noticed reddit posts mentioning it from way back. Like over 4 years ago back. In fact someone had even made an extension to convert it back, but I noticed it's very buggy, almost unusable.
Seems like they just bring it back out to see if people change their minds on it.
Yeh, it seems to be a bit of a free for all with YouTube and them having people on particular feature exclusion and inclusion lists.
This is what gets me. I get it if you don’t pay for an app etc but a good deal of people pay out the nose for premium access to YouTube as well.In my opinion, at the very very least, those people should have the option to have control over how an application they pay for changes etc.
No one in their right mind buys applications etc that could just pull the majority their features at any point and also those paying are more likely to have a use case that relies more heavily on already existing features.
Hence them paying for it. It just makes no sense and this behaviour sets a very dangerous precedent.
Today, I opened up Youtube and the old UI layout was back. Did the complaining work? Did they revert it?

I sent a negative feedback and a couple days later I was reverted back to the old UI.
Not sure if the feedback had anything to do with it though.
I have submitted mine. Fingers crossed. I just politely asked for the old UI.

You lucky lucky person, I spent 10 minutes scripting and fixing chrome extensions tonight just to get something semi usable, e.g. being able to see the full video and playlist as well as title and description and even now it’s still just not quite right.
Anyway I hope it holds up for you.
I agree with you but the framing of this is ironic considering no one asked for your opinion.
