Update to the paint spill: I did it Reddit.
I can't post pictures in the other post so here's an update: Wire wheel brush on the grinder, an acetone scrub and finishing with dish soap did as gooder job as l think i could hope for. I hate the fresh concrete patina but hopefully it'll weather in a few months.
Thanks Reddit!
Thank you for the update
I really do appreciate updates like this too. We so rarely get closure! Even if it's a minor thing.
Wait this reminds me - did that guy open that safe he found in a ditch?
The back of it was cut open he peeled it off and inside was just full of river dirt and a dead cupacabra corpse.
It’s kinda like holding the door open for someone. You expect some sort of acknowledgment.
It also provides visual proof of what to do in case of a spill... THERE IS NO ARGUMENT until the pictures are unhosted or OP deletes their account/gets banned.
If only reddit was easier to search and cared about being useful for information.
Don't even get me started on the results of secret safes or vaults Redditors end up posting here.
Right!?
Thanks update!
I saw your original post and I'm glad you got it sorted! That didn't even take that long.
Yea this Redditor is on top of it.
Love to see a same-day update like this haha. You did great!
Now paint the step.
And don’t spill any paint doing it

original post
Hilarious, Im scrolling, and only saw your paint spill two posts ago.
It's like it never even happened! Looks like your gf did a good job on the door as well. Nice color.
Good job now remember to put a drop cloth down from now on
We did it!
Well done !!
Why not try some brakleen to finish it off?
Looks good, now spill some paint on that faded red curb 😅
Good job, the concrete will weather pretty quick. The most important thing is that you fixed something the significant other would be mad about for ages had it not been fixed. 👍
I was pretty pissed at myself, to be fair.
I think the longer i waited the harder the paint would've set. I'm glad it's done!
Looks nice, now do the step.
“You guys I finished on the step but I tripped and you aren’t going to goddamn believe this”
LMAO
Yeah, this guy should place his gallon of paint inside a 5 gallon bucket, just to be safe
Till death just extended the death part but don't worry. There is always tomorrow 😁
I couldn't imagine knocking over that can and the feeling that came with it. Glad she had enough paint to finish and you were able to clean it up.
I stood in a tray of dark blue paint, on the carpet. You can still see it very faintly in certain lights
In the future, maybe not beat yourself up (or get brow beaten by others) for a simple accident that is probably relatively easy to fix.
So what was the option you went with in the end? The original thread is a mess of suggestions…..
It says in the image description. Wire wheelbrush on a grinder, acetone scrub and dish soap to finish =)
Those wire wheels work wonders! A few years ago I came across some large graffiti spots along my favorite dog walking route. It was thick acrylic paint on fairly flat sandstone. So, determined to make sure the idiots vandalizing this beautiful public land never get to come back and "enjoy their work," I return a day or 2 later with a cordless drill, wire-brush wheel, and a couple extra batteries. In an hour or so, all the paint was gone and you could only tell where it had been by the lightened color of the rock. Now that it's weathered for a few years, it's virtually indistinguishable.
I wish I could upvote this more than once!
Original post for when it is lost in time
Lol I thought we were referring to a white paint spill on the step. Was thinking I can still see it and wondering what the before looked like
I didn’t comment previously but good job on the clean up and your partner picked a gorgeous door color!! Wins all around!
Thankyou! I showed her the post and a few people were mean about the colour. We love it though!
It's the internet. You could be the biggest philanthropist in the world, and still there would be mean comments. The color looks nice.
Fucking philanthropists. There is nothing that I hate more than the anthropological study of Phils... Phils suck.

Victorian stuff the best when it's loud af in old school tones.
Scheele's Green, Mummy Brown, Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Violet, Crimson Blood.... Just about every color was death but boy are they great colors.
Just needs a new coat of red paint on the step now to complete the look
Tell your girlfriend the door looks great! I like the color and the job was well done
Green is my favorite color so I'm biased, but I think it's REALLY nice.
I think it looks great as well! the green is a beautiful rich shade and goes lovely with the red brick.
That door is gorgeous and don't let anyone tell you different.
They were wrong, the green with the brick is absolutely stunning!
It looks gorgeous. I have a different colour brick house and did the front door lavender. I got so much criticism when I did it from acquaintances (the nerve) but other people walking by compliment it a lot when I’m in the garden. And I’m seeing a growing number of colourful doors in my town. Love the green
I'm personally not a fan, but that's no reason for you to not have it. You do you!
I love the colour, for the record.
No way. That is a great color and she did a good job painting it too.
The door color is gorgeous.
Lovely colour, looks great.
It's a great color for the door! So vivid and cheerful.
That’s stupid. It’s lovely and it’s your door.
Now your lady can stop the breakup proceedings.
Until my next clumsy mishap!
You just use the wheel brush grinder again then!
"I shrank her favorite sweater...wait, I know!!!"
She should be in the "my husband is resourceful and takes responsibility" camp, at the very least.
Looks great. I’d carefully give that red step a new coat.
Yeah we're gonna go oxide red with it i think.
Be careful with the can!
Or don't. They know how to clean it now.
Madder red!
https://www.lib.uchicago.edu/collex/exhibits/originsof-color/organic-dyes-and-lakes/red-madder/
Humans are amazing. Who knows what given people were doing when they noticed different things give good colors. This plant, it is the root. Then there are particular insects when ground up. And so on. Then the knowledge was refined and spread.
I have an old family recipe for madder red from the early 1800s signed by an ancestor. It’s one of my favorite things
Prep is 90 percent of the work to getting a quality finish.
Dont drop that paint too
And a drop cloth.
Laughs in oil based.
Saw the original post. Looks pretty good.
Grinder with a wire weel, wire brush with acetone and dishsoap to rinse.
Had to scroll way too far to find out what the actual solution was. awesome work!
We're so fucking proud of you.
Haha!
Great job, now do something with that step
Well now it doesn't match the door
Yeah i liked it better before, honestly
AN UPDATE??? ON REDDIT???
Looks amazing, I would never have thought that it would recover that well.
Damn good job. If I hadn't seen the before I'd never have guessed how bad it was. There still seems to be a bit on the side blocks but it's so minimal it looks like some light moss growth.
Is she going to paint the threshold too? Idk why it’s bugging me that the door and now the concrete look so good but the threshold is all chipped and weather worn
Booooooo, you should've painted the entire floor green, it was a beautiful color
We did like it, but honestly i don't think it'd last very long. Now all the path is clean we might paint it with proper concrete paint.

As gooder? Why not.
I can't be mad at him, that's what it actually sounds like, so meh.
That looks fantastic! We'll done. While I've been sitting in my chair, you've been working hard. You did a great job!
Kind of satisfying that these appeared in my feed pretty close together, the first one with the paint on the ground and the second one clean
Updates get upvotes and comments. Looks great. You did a good job. I have to compliment you for asking for help and following through then following up. I feel like I sound like a bot so I'm going to say something totally random. Im not a bot. Dang it. That was not random enough. <3
Wow. Saw your original post, despite the optimism from some comments I was utterly convinced you could not remove that without leaving a visible stain. Kudos on following up with a post and picture.
Looks great buddy, good job.
good job. now paint the step.
Me looking at red step: It look worse, you should paint it, then saw original post. Still you should pain the step.
My wife would be chagrined that she couldn’t be mad at me any longer.
This is really refreshing to see, thanks
Stepped up and fucking handled it. Bravo OP!
Is she less unhappy?
Not again!!
Missed a spot.
I think you meant "we" did it Reddit
I think this is the first update i’ve ever seen and very happy for you OP
That's impressive! I saw the original post and thought you might just have to paint the square green
I'm proud of you, if that happened to me I'd have a green porch forever
nice job!!
I'm going to be honest, I really didn't think you were going to get that up.
paint that step red now my guy! and don't spill it 😂
Thats sick. Worked better than I expected.
Having seen the original spill picture, that’s a fantastic clean up job!
Make sure not to spill the paint when you do the step!
Now strip the step!
Soooo you didn't just paint everything green like I wanted? Cheers. (Looks good though 👍)
When she paints that step, STAY AWAY!
Aww, I was rooting for the fuck it just paint it all green solution
Nice work!
Great job
Nice job!!
Unbelievable! That’s a MEGA Win 🏅
Hope Mgmt is in the rewarding mood following this display of elbow grease & ingenuity.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Looks fresh. Next weekend paint the red step? I’ll keep an eye out for your post.
Nice
Congrats, what got the paint up?
Oh wow! That’s so cool. Thx for updating us
VICTORY!!!!
I would have just painted a matching door on the concrete for the surreality.
What's really impressive is that you got a response, enacted that plan, posted the results, and went viral twice. All in under 15 hours. Way to fo.!
The door color is legit. 2legit2quit
Damn that did a good job
What sorcery have you committed?
Well done.
Proud of you! 👍
" as gooder job" has me over here all:
Now paint that stoop red and pressure wash your shit.
That is a beautiful green color!
Paint that step now please. Oh and no spills!
king
Wire wheel that front step while you're at it
Now you have to do something about that step near the door.
Put a drop cloth down when you paint the step, eh?
Please paint the god damn step 😂
The update I didn’t know i needed. I really didn’t think you would be able to get it out.
Yaaaay good job my dude!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can finally go to sleep in peace
Well. I was a doubter. That's me shown.
Well done OP.
Just wanted to say that I saw your first post, and I am so glad to see this! You did a great job and give me hope that DIY and reddit is a good resource for owning and maintaining a home :)
Ok now do the step there cuz it looks weird now the door is finished lol
I hope you wore a mask with that concrete grinding.
I did! Proper respirator.
Thank goodness. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Good job. Solvent choice is tricky. Flammability vs evaporation rate. Acetone goes fast so congrats on getting a uniform appearance.
I made sure the lid was on when i made sparks with the grinder!!!
Now repaint your concrete step red and your all set lol just don’t spill the red paint 👀
Nice!
You mished a schpot 🤓
Now that it's cleaned, I'd probably add a concrete sealer.
And got rid of the moss buildup too! Nicely done.
Amazing what AI can do nowadays 😜
Yayyyyy!!!!
Looks like it never happened
A nice etching followed up with a sealant or staining would be a massive improvement to the concrete.
Your cleanup job is amazing. I didn’t think it would be possible to make it completely disappear.
Looks great! Hope the lady of the house is also content? And all without flipping the tiles 👍😋
Damn, put a smile on my face while you were at it, bro. Excellent work
Nicely done!
Hey while you’re working on the outside there repaint that step! It’ll look so fresh and nice!!
Fucking legend!
Nice!
How did you choose to do it?
I cannot believe you got oil based paint up that well. I’m very impressed, what method did you end up using?
Now onto the red thing below the door!

Well done man.
Good job OP
Shouldve stuck with the green. But hoa, council, lady gets the final say.
Well done. And the green door is beautiful!
I love that paint color! What is it called?
That's a pretty good job considering how bad it looked 11 hours ago. You wouldn't think it had all that paint spilt on it.
No, we did it
Love the door color and I’m glad you fixed the mess on the porch
Just power wash the rest of the concrete to match.
Missed a big opportunity not painting it green
Welp do the same for the rest of the concrete
You could also apologize but repainting her front step
I liked the green color personally
Good job, and I love the door!
Door looks great now repaint the stoop.
He’s safe from the possible ass beating
A job well done! You deserve a cold one for that!
Acetone and dish soap. Scrub hard
Dear diary,
Today, OP delivered.
You can always paint it 😂😂😂
