The Lasko Aria 40-Inch Smart Oscillating Tower Fan T40733 is a sleek bladeless fan that delivers strong, quiet cooling you can control via an onboard panel, your phone, or your voice. Setup is a breeze, and the fan’s lightweight frame and carry handle make it easy to move it from room to room. At $99.99, it’s well-priced for a connected tower fan and a solid addition to your smart home, but if you can increase your budget, the Editors' Choice-winning Dreo Pilot Max Tower Fan ($149.99) offers more features including 12 speeds, four oscillation angles, and a remote control.
Design and Features: A Traditional Tower With Smarts
The Lasko T40733 is a bladeless fan that uses a vertically mounted 22-inch-long spinning cylinder to pull in air and circulate it back out into the room. The cylindrical tower is attached to a round base and has a black finish with silver trim. At 9.5 pounds, the T40733 is slightly heavier than the 9-pound Dreo Pilot Max but it's still very easy to transport from room to room using the carry handle on the back of the tower. Measuring 39.5 by 11.2 inches (HW), it’s shorter and wider than the 42.5-by-5.7-inch Pilot Max.
The fan is powered by a 5-speed motor, has a noise rating of 31dB/48dB (low/high speed), and offers a 60-degree oscillation range. In comparison, the Dreo Pilot Max offers 12 fan speed settings, has a noise rating of 25dB/48dB, and has four oscillation settings (30, 60, 90, or 120 degrees). At the top of the Lasko fan, facing outward, is a control panel with buttons for Power, Fan Speed (1, 2, 3, 4, and 5), Oscillation (On, Off), and Wi-Fi pairing. There’s also an Off Timer button that can be set for up to nine hours. Missing is the handheld remote that you get with the Dreo Pilot Max.
Under the hood is a Bluetooth radio for pairing the fan to the Aria mobile app (available for Android and iOS devices) and a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio for adding the fan to your home network where you can control it from anywhere using your phone and with Alexa and Google voice commands. The fan does not work with Apple HomeKit or IFTTT applets, nor does it support the smart home interoperability standard Matter.

The T40733 uses the Aria mobile app and appears in its own panel on the home screen along with any other connected Lasko devices you have installed. Tap the panel to open a control screen with a large circular fan icon that tells you the current fan speed if the device is on. When the fan is running, the icon’s fan blades spin, and when it is off they are idle.
The control screen also has a fan speed slider (1 to 5), and buttons for powering the fan on/off, turning the LED display on/off, enabling/disabling oscillation, setting an off timer, and creating a custom schedule. The scheduling function lets you program it to automatically turn on/off at your preferred times, with a specific fan speed and oscillation enabled or disabled during operation. Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner to access settings that allow you to create automations that will turn any of your Lasko devices on or off with the touch of a single button, share the device with other users, create a groups of Lasko devices, and link your Aria account with your Alexa and Google accounts. Installation and Performance: Easy Breezy
Setting up the T40733 fan is fast and easy. Start by snapping the two base sections together, insert the bottom of the fan into the base, and turn the base assembly clockwise until it locks into place. Download the mobile app and create an account, power up the fan, and press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the fan for five seconds until it begins flashing red. Once the app recognizes the fan, which should happen immediately, select your Wi-Fi SSID, enter your Wi-Fi password, and update the firmware (if necessary) to complete the installation.
The T40733 performed admirably in testing. It had no trouble cooling down my 216 square-foot den when set to high speed with oscillation enabled. I set it up alongside the Dreo Pilot Max and it was every bit as powerful and just as quiet when running at high speed. The fan responded instantly to app commands and successfully executed Alexa voice commands to turn on and off, change the fan speed, enable and disable oscillation, and set the off timer. I created an Alexa routine to have the T40733 turn on with the fan speed set to 3 whenever a Ring Floodlight Camera detected motion, and it worked without issue.
The Verdict: A Fine Fan for Smart Homes
If you’re looking for a stylish alternative to a traditional bladed fan, give the Lasko Aria 40-Inch Smart Oscillating Tower Fan T40733 a look. It’s a snap to install, supports voice commands, and can be easily moved to any room in the house. A good value at $99.99, the T40733 does a great job of cooling down medium-sized rooms, but you’ll get a few extra features with our Editors' Choice, the $149.99 Dreo Pilot Max Tower Fan, including a wider oscillation range, 12 fan speed settings, and a remote control.
