1. Presumed Innocent (Apple TV+)

If you think you saw this movie with Harrison Ford back in 1990, you're right. But this time the Scott Turow novel it was based on has been turned into a series, with Jake Gyllenhaal taking on the role of a prosecutor accused of murder.

2. Trigger Warning

Jessica Alba takes up the action hero mantle again, this time as a Special Forces operator who retires to run her father's bar and who has to take on a gang who's out to destroy the entire town.

3. Monkey Man (Peacock Premium)

Dev Patel co-wrote, produced, directed, and stars in Monkey Man where he plays the man in question who dons a monkey mask in his life as a fighter. Like any man behind a mask, he has some secrets to hide, one of which is that he's living the life he is in pursuit of avenging his mother's death.

4. Hit Man (Netflix)

Glen Powell starred in one of Netflix's biggest hits, Anyone But You. Now he has also written one, Hit Man (which he also stars in). The co-writer and director is Richard Linklater. Powell plays a professor who makes extra cash by posing as a hit man in police stings. Until he meets and falls in love with a woman who tries to hire him to knock off her abusive husband.

5. Oppenheimer (Prime Video)

If you missed out on the in-theater Barbenheimer madness, you can now enjoy both movies from the comfort of your home. "Enjoy" may be the wrong word for Oppenheimer given it's about the development of the atomic bomb, but it's cleaning up this awards season, so it's probably worth a watch if you have Peacock. (If you have Netflix and want to continue the nuke theme, Einstein and the Bomb is a docudrama movie that combines scripted elements and interviews to look back on the life of Albert Einstein.

6. The Boys (Prime Video)

The Boys is back in town and this world of “heroes” is bloodier than ever. The group trying to stop the corporate-controlled supes from basically breaking or taking the world is fractured and if they don’t get it together, it’s gonna get worse. Thankfully, over on the spinoff, Gen V, they made a virus that kills supes.

7. The Bear (Hulu)

The show that took awards season by storm is back. The first episode starts minutes after last season's screamy finale. There is plenty of yelling in this season two, as well as lots of cameos from actual chefs.

8. House of the Dragon (Max)

There’s not much appointment TV left these days, but House of the Dragon may fit the bill for those who don’t still feel burned (literally) by Daenerys Targaryen going full Mad Queen at the end of Game of Thrones. Take another trip back in time to that same incestuous family dynasty as they all fight with, you guessed it, even more dragons.

9. Dark Matter (Apple TV+)

Based on the Blake Crouch novel of the same name, this nine-part series tackles the concept of parallel universes through Jason, a physicist who wakes up in another version of his life that he doesn't recognize. It turns out it's his own fault and he must untangle his current reality to return to the one he wants.

10. Inside Out (Disney+)

With Inside Out 2 in theaters, people are revisiting when they and protagonist Riley first met Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust.

About Chandra Steele

Senior Features Writer

My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can connect it to technology (I can). I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. You might have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on your commute home on the radio or a podcast. Or maybe you’ve just seen my Bernie meme

I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.
