What we’re about
This is a group for folks who love to get into nature but fall into one or more of these categories: 1) Somewhat daunted by 20 mile, 5000 ft elevation-gain day hikes; 2) New to hiking and camping; 2) Just like to amble along and enjoy the scenery and the company rather than rush to a destination. We do chill day-hikes, overnights, and just overall chill activities that will get us outside from time to time.
Note: Outdoor activities can lead to injuries. This meetup and organizers are not responsible for any sort of member injuries that happen at or after any events. Please be responsible and take care of yourself!

Arguably, we live in the greatest city in the world, but nothing can maintain its greatness if you’re exposed to it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? I’m a pizza lover, but if I was forced to eat it every meal the mere thought of it would make me wretch. What’s the point of this exposition? We all need a change of scenery some time. We’re going to get that change by heading out of town this July 4th holiday…way out of town. Come join me for a relaxed group camp out in Pennsylvania's Frances Slocum State Park.
The plan…
We'll arrive Thursday afternoon at the campground and head to our group campsite to set up our tents and other gear. From here we can do as much or as little as we'd like. The park offers many opportunities for entertainment. It has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, snack bar, camp store, and a 165 acre lake with kayak and canoe rentals. You'll also find a fishing pier if that’s your thing--just remember to get a fishing license--and nine miles of trails for you to get your daily steps in.
What does it cost?
Campsite charge will be $30.04 per person for THREE nights of camping. To pay by Venmo, click HERE.
*** IMPORTANT: Until you submit payment you're not a confirmed RSVP. When you send the campsite fee you will be moved off of the wait list. ***
What do I eat?
To keep it simple, everyone is responsible for bringing what food and snacks they would like to eat and drink. We will be cooking meals Thursday night through Sunday morning and it will be semi-communal, meaning bring what you would like to eat for yourself but perhaps also enough to share with a few other people. There are fire pits with integrated grills to cook on. Simple to cook but interesting items are best.
Other important stuff...
- By RSVPing for this event, you agree to the following waiver of liability https://bit.ly/3atj0C5
- You are responsible for supplying your own food, drink, tent, sleeping bag, etc., or arranging a share with someone. The campground has restroom and shower facilities.
- If you're a camping beginner, this is a good opportunity to give the activity a shot to see if you like it.
- The cost of any firewood we use for the weekend will be split among the attendees.
- Space is limited, don't wait to send in your camping payment or else you may get shut out of the event.
How do I get there?
Frances Slocum State Park is in Northern Pennsylvania, about two hours from NYC. Use this address for your GPS:

- Chill Times: Swartswood State Park BBQ PicnicSwartswood State Park, Swartswood, NJ
You guys have been great meetup group and have brought a lot of good times to my adventures. Let's enjoy each other's company one more time for a BBQ picnic at New Jersey's Swartswood State Park.
The plan...
We'll gather at our picnic site in the morning to drop off our stuff and then everyone can head off to play in the park until lunch time, or if you just want to kick back in a chair to play a game or read, you can do that too. Swartswood offers a refreshing lake to swim in and a beach to catch some sun rays on -- just make sure you're wearing a swimsuit please.
Or if you want a little more activity, you can rent a kayak and paddle the lake (you can also bring your own if you have!), take a hike on the miles of trails in the park which range in difficulty from an afternoon stroll to a heart pumping work out, or play ball on one of the sports fields. If fishing is your thing you can do that too, just make sure you have a NJ fishing license.
For food...
I'll supply the charcoal and some snacks but I'm making the suggestion that everyone brings one or two BBQ items. We also need BBQ extras like condiments etc. Some ideas of stuff to bring:
SIDES AND DRINKS: Baked Beans/Baked Potatoes/Cole Slaw/Corn on the Cob/Fruit Salad/Pasta Salad/Potato Chips/Tossed Salad/Watermelon/Soda/Water/Beer & Wine (Alcohol not legally permitted so discretion is necessary)
MEATS: Chicken/Hamburgers & Buns/Hot Dog & Buns/Ribs/Veggie Burgers
ESSENTIALS: Aluminum Foil/Napkins/Paper Plates/Plastic Cups/Plastic Forks/Plastic Knifes/Plastic Spoons
CONDIMENTS: BBQ Sauce/Cheese/Ketchup/Lettuce/Mustard/Onion/TomatoesPlease post in the Whatsapp group chat below what you'll be bringing so we don't end up with 15 bottles of mustard.
Join the chat for this event HERE.
The important stuff...
• Dress for the activity you choose to participate in that day, hiking, swimming, etc.
• Park admission is $10.00 per car for New Jersey residents, $20 for everyone else.
• No guests allowed, sorry.
• Please DO NOT RSVP if you do not seriously plan to attend as space is limited. How to get there! Drive or carpool.
The park address is:
Swartswood State Park
1091 County Road 619
Newton NJ, 07860If you're coming and can offer a ride, please make a comment. I plan to arrive at the park when it first opens for visitors. I will grab a BBQ spot for the group and post a comment/drop a pin with the exact location.

- Bring and distribute your business cards.
Exchange cards with your partner at the beginning of each three-minute session—this can be a time saver. When you exchange cards, take time to read what is on your partner’s card. The other person will see this as interest on your part and, equally important, it will help you remember faces and names later on.
2. Develop an efficient way to introduce yourself.
Consider developing an “elevator pitch”—a response you can give in any situation when someone asks you who you are or what you do. Think about how you want to describe yourself. You could talk about your current position, explain a project you’ve undertaken, or describe your goals for 2019..
3. Contribute to an effective conversation.
Make sure there is an even exchange of dialogue. Pose a question or make a point, and let the other person respond. Ask about the challenges and needs your partner faces in his or her organization or industry. This will give you an opportunity to establish common ground and, if appropriate, to offer ways in which you’ve solved similar problems.
4. Follow up with individuals with whom you made a connection.
If you feel that there is the possibility of furthering a relationship with a contact, express that to the person during your session.
The key to making the most of Speed Networking is to follow up with your contacts over time to develop credible business relationships.
Key Benefits:
- The main purpose of the speed networking is to meet lots of new contacts in a short space of time.
