Waymo is live in Atlanta! 🍑 🤖 🚙 Over the past few months, our team’s had the pleasure of connecting with community organizations across the city who are excited about the benefits of autonomous vehicles — from safer roads to more accessible and sustainable transportation. Hannah Tuten and I had the privilege of hosting some incredible Atlantans for their first-ever rides in a fully autonomous Waymo — no human driver up front, just our technology in action. And now, anyone in Atlanta can hail a ride through the Uber app! Big thanks to our local partners and the Atlanta community for the warm welcome — this is only the beginning!

  • At Waymo, safety is at the core of everything we do, and our partnership with the League of American Bicyclists reinforces our commitment to building a future where the roads are safer for everyone, including cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users. In a recent trip to Los Angeles, leaders from the League got to experience the technology for themselves and understand how our fully autonomous vehicles are designed with 360-degree vision, prioritize cyclist detection, and respect the three-foot rule of safe passing distances. Together, we're working to define the future of safe mobility: https://lnkd.in/erzXi668

One in four Angelenos will be aged 60+ by 2030, according to the city controller. In this city of highways, getting around without a car can be challenging - especially for aging adults. “One of the issues that I’ve seen is older adults getting to the point where they can no longer drive,” said Bill Meyerchak, a volunteer at the Fairfax Senior Center in LA who leads Tech Tuesday classes. Bill, who cannot drive due to a disability, says Waymo’s technology was life-changing for him. Now, he’s sharing it with others. Watch a group of intrepid visitors of Fairfax Senior Center embrace Waymo as they take their first rides.

Welcome to the nation's capital, Waymo! GHSA's Jonathan Adkins and Daniel Zimmerman share their thoughts on the tremendous roadway safety potential that autonomous vehicles unlock in today's The Washington Post. “I’ve experienced firsthand how safely the Waymo Driver operates around pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users,” Adkins said. "Waymo has worked with GHSA and our first responder network as they’ve expanded their service, always putting safety first. As someone who walks to work almost every day, I’m excited to share the road with Waymo in Washington, D.C.” Thanks to Waymo for their commitment to making our roads safer for everyone using them!
