Systems (of Services) Engineers should never have started with Google's Site Reliability Handbook. They would have been better served if they had read up first on Situational Awareness. The US Military gives a great introduction; though it is the context of military operations, it is easily abstracted and mapped to managing large-scale IT operations. The signs are all there, yet today, we talk about the site and never the situation. 2023-10-19 Army The Army Unified Network Plan Is Ready for Primetime. The Department of Defense (DoD) has demonstrated the success of its rapid prototyping middle tier acquisition (MTA) Program. This program was designed to provide capabilities within 2 to 5 years of an acquisition program's start. The Army’s new Integrated Technical Network (ITN) was announced by the Army in October 2021 and has been widely deployed to brigades and divisions by the beginning of FY2024, October 2023. This network provides interoperability to connect small-unit dismounted leaders for implementing mission command, situational awareness, and air-to-ground integration. The process is spelled out in DoD Instruction 5000.80. The rapid prototyping MTA program provides for reduction of risk and cost savings, new business opportunities, paths for more innovative solutions, and acceleration of capability development.
