This is a great puzzle. At first, it looks like a typical ad from the 1950s, but I wonder. Philco was famously located in Philadelphia. Ersatz, as in 10 Erstazen Way, means fake. Ossining, N.Y. is a lovely town on the Hudson River and is also the home of Sing Sing prison. There is no Assining. That power supply on the upper left of the cart could provide enough power to rip the speaker cone on the lower level to shreds. New White House Guidance on AI Focuses on Benefits to the USA, Not Prohibitions   On October 30, 2023, the White House issued an Executive Order providing guidance for making government and private AI systems safe, secure, and trustworthy. A policy is laid out for a practical, holistic approach. This is to be contrasted with the new EU law that focuses primarily on addressing risks.   Guiding principles are: (a)   Artificial Intelligence must be safe and secure.  (b)  Promoting responsible innovation, competition, and collaboration will allow the United States to lead in AI and unlock the technology’s potential to solve some of society’s most difficult challenges. (c)   The responsible development and use of AI require a commitment to supporting American workers.  (d)  Artificial Intelligence policies must be consistent with advancing equity and civil rights.  (e)   The interests of Americans who increasingly use, interact with, or purchase AI and AI-enabled products in their daily lives must be protected.  (f)    Americans’ privacy and civil liberties must be protected as AI continues advancing.  (g)   It is important to manage the risks from the Federal Government’s own use of AI and increase its internal capacity to regulate, govern, and support responsible use of AI to deliver better results for Americans.  (h)  The Federal Government should lead the way to global societal, economic, and technological progress, as the United States has in previous eras of disruptive innovation and change.    The full Executive Order is at https://lnkd.in/gNdAXFR2

2023-10-19 Army The Army Unified Network Plan Is Ready for Primetime. The Department of Defense (DoD) has demonstrated the success of its rapid prototyping middle tier acquisition (MTA) Program. This program was designed to provide capabilities within 2 to 5 years of an acquisition program's start. The Army’s new Integrated Technical Network (ITN) was announced by the Army in October 2021 and has been widely deployed to brigades and divisions by the beginning of FY2024, October 2023. This network provides interoperability to connect small-unit dismounted leaders for implementing mission command, situational awareness, and air-to-ground integration. The process is spelled out in DoD Instruction 5000.80. The rapid prototyping MTA program provides for reduction of risk and cost savings, new business opportunities, paths for more innovative solutions, and acceleration of capability development.

A new tool from the SBA will benefit small government contractors . The small business administration has set up a new application on its website called the small business data hub. Contractors can look at activity in individual states or SBA regions to find the total dollar volume of contract awards and percentages of contracts awarded to small businesses and individual categories, e.g., such as women owned small businesses.   Experience improves the cybersecurity process Under the current White House software security initiative, agencies must only use software that is provided by software producers using Government-specified minimum secure software development practices. Now, the agencies and software developers are being given additional time to develop sound procedures for compliance. This will be more effective than when DoD mandated compliance with cybersecurity standards before needs were truly understood.
