According to National Autistic Society only 29% of Autistic people are in any form of employment. so what can we do to change that? It is time to ensure we are all are committed to fostering workplace cultures that embrace neurodiversity, where everyone feels respected, understood, and empowered to thrive. Recognising and including neurodivergent people at work has great benefits for both employers and employees. Neurodiversity includes conditions like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Being open to Neurodiversity makes work more welcoming and helps us find new talents and ideas. Neurodivergent individuals often have skills that help teams solve problems. For instance, someone with autism might be great at spotting patterns, while those with ADHD can be really creative. Including their perspectives helps us come up with better solutions to tricky problems. Different people need different kinds of support, and it's the same for Neurodivergent individuals. At Tameside Council, we're working on being more inclusive with policies like the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Framework and the Neurodiversity Staff Network. This Neurodiversity Celebration Week, I urge you to learn more about #neurodiversity and challenge any stereotypes you may have. A workplace that embraces #diversity is better for everyone.
