he chief executives of the biggest social-media companies will be summoned to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to face an inquisition by senators. The heads of Meta, TikTok, X, Snap and Discord will answer questions from the Senate judiciary committee about their efforts to protect children. Moderating social media is a contentious and partisan issue. Democrats say that social apps are not doing enough to stamp out hate speech and misinformation. Republicans counter that the platforms are overly censorious and fail to uphold free speech. The result is congressional deadlock. But there are areas of political consensus, among them the trading of child-abuse images, the grooming of minors and the generation of so-called deepfake videos (of which Taylor Swift, a pop star, is the latest high-profile victim). Two bills designed to curb online child exploitation passed the Senate last year. Wednesday’s hearing is more than a talking shop. -Economist.

Helping CMOs break, bend and flex the screens behind which their brands reside. Pioneering Augmented Experiences (AX)
I loved working at Snap. And as my own babies turn into tiny teenagers, many parents ask me about social media platforms. We all know it can be a big bad world, and we can’t protect them from everything. But moves like this show Snap Inc. understands and is trying to help. A platform with principles might also be a better choice for advertisers too… as people start to care more and more about what your brand really stands for 🧐 #brandswithpurpose #responsiblemarketing #peoplefirst https://lnkd.in/dfRrxrcf

Studio owners: Give employees (and yourself) time off to vote on election days. One major barrier to voter participation in the US is that employees can't take time off from work to vote. Long lines, restrictions on open voting hours, etc also play into this issue deeply. But giving people the day off to vote will encourage voter participation, to help create the change they wish to see. Company owners have the power to help support an employee's right to take part if they so choose. It doesn't take much to make election days a holiday in your company, or to develop a plan that provides opportunities to vote early, provide transportation, and much more. Let's give more time and support to voting! Open Pixel Studios will always be closed on national election days, and will support our team's plans to vote no matter their location across the country. #Voting #BusinessDevelopment #Leadership

Don't let them run circles around you. Embrace social media to create genuine connections, understand voter concerns, and respond in real time. Billionaires and Politicians spout meaningless words... A very interesting read in #TheWashingtonPost today. Thanks #DwayneMatthews for getting it into my feed. Dwayne and #AmberMac do so much work to bring this issue to the forefront for all of us with a consistency that is admirable. As for the hearing in the article link. I'm not sure why we are all so surprised that social media giants are so well protected by polititians. Money matters in this world when it comes to politics. The Uber wealthy know this. Politicians know this. Why don't more of us know this. We need to elect people who will do more than ask grand standing questions at public hearings. Please Sen. Cotton... Show us proof of YOUR impact in trying to stem the social media access for teens and children. Nope. He can't do it. So he bullies in hearings. Granted... Mark Zuckerberg being put on the spot is a bit of fleeting feel good one day news. But what will Brer Cotton do now? What will Mr. Cotton do as follow up in real substantive terms. And what will Mr. Zuk do. Anything more than a few in the moment heartfelt words? That's the core issue.. Follow up. Decisive follow up. This is what matters. How is this this relevant to schools? Our job is to educate our... Teachers to role model. Students to understand. Parents to more than just cope. We need 3 pronged strategies from schools to help all 3 groups. That's our mission. #CyberSafetyMatters

An American bipartisan stance around the impact of social media. Momentum for greater accountability for the negative impacts on children and society. Other countries need to also follow up. An important day today as it relates to social media. We have an opportunity to revisit this and it’s an important opportunity that we would be wise to grab. #socialmedia #cyberhygiene https://lnkd.in/gWc9sJRf

Looks like we're all in for an interesting six weeks, thanks to Sunak's snap #election, announced seemingly out of the blue earlier today. Six weeks may be a long time in #politics, but for the rest of us it's less than one pay day away. So how much can #marketing - and those fat #advertising budgets - really affect voter's decisions between now and the #generalelection on 4 July? Potentially quite a lot, if the below are anything to go by... 👉Will streaming be the new election battleground? >> https://lnkd.in/g8FqtsZF 👉How having an influencer strategy became a political essential >> https://lnkd.in/e637GmZW 👉Helping first-time voters understand political advertising >> https://lnkd.in/eKe_Fdiz 👉Getting young people registered to vote >> https://lnkd.in/efQrsGBS 👉Parties ramp up social ad spend >> https://lnkd.in/exjutmJg And that's just from the last few months. Rolls up your sleeves adland, this is about to get interesting...

Deepfakes are already disrupting elections, and this will only get more common. Another day another instance of a deepfake being used to disrupt an election. This news is sadly becoming commonplace. It is essential that campaigns of all sizes, even local campaigns start arming themselves with the tools and technologies to combat these threats. Extremely high quality audio deepfakes can be created with tools like ElevenLabs for as low as $5 a month, with only a few minutes of audio of the target. Sound clips short enough to be gain from YouTube shorts and Instagram reels. The barrier of entry to disrupting elections has dropped to the technical skills of a highschooler and the cost of less than a McDonalds meal. It gets worse, before it gets worse.
