Thank you to our VB members who volunteered today at another one of our monthly volunteer sessions with Louise’s Pantry at Nazareth Housing! At Louise’s Pantry, families work with pantry volunteers to hand-select food items that best suit the nutritional needs of their households. Stocked with fresh fruits, seasonal vegetables, cereals, baby formula and much more, Louise’s Pantry fills critical food gaps and helps ease the financial stress of putting food on the table each day.

healthy food is so essential
We are so grateful for the continued support of Hunger Task Force in supplying over a third of the fresh food offered in our Milwaukee food pantry. Using the money we save because of their generous donations, we're able to supply our patients with a greater variety of nutritious foods. Their continued commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our patients is not only admirable, but essential to the success of our mission. Thank you to WISN-TV for this wonderful feature! https://ow.ly/m0QQ50QHevT

When 25% of the staff handing out prepared meals are also consuming those meals, it’s an alert to the high level of food insecurity within the community. For Oak Cliff, a nonprofit outside of Dallas, discovered their evening staff members were going hungry and not eating enough healthy meals. With access to The Cook’s Nook’s Cultura Cuisine meals, the staff was able to normalize eating well and spread this message, along with the prepared meals, to the community. The key to better health outcomes is consistency. The JAMA Network recently published a report detailing how 4-week post-hospitalization, home-delivered meals benefit patients by lowering rehospitalization within a 30-day period. Tips on Healthy lunch boxes🥗 Some children become very fussy about what they eat so it is so important for them to try lots of different foods, it may take time for their palates to enjoy the taste so always reintroduce foods they say they do not like 1. Let your children get involved with preparing and choosing what goes into their lunch box. Your children are more likely to eat food that they have helped to make. 🥑 2. Fuller for longer - use bread, rice or pasta trying to use whole grain where possible. Mix your slices of bread or use 50/50 to help introduce wholegrain into their diet. 🍞 3. Try to add carrot & cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes with a dipping pot makes lunchboxes exciting and it is part of their 5 a day. 🥕 4. Add a variety of bite size fruit – this makes it easier to eat and children are more likely to try when in smaller portions. 🍓 5. Be creative in what goes into the lunchbox – change it up from day to day giving your children a chance to try new things. 🍉 Use apps like NHS Change for life food smart to scan barcodes to support you with sugar, fat and salt intake in foods you buy in the supermarkets. #support #nationallottery #hereforyou #charity #familysupport #heretolisten #advice #community #broxbourne #hertfordshire #HenrySmith #GarfieldandWeston

Did you know nearly 7,000 children in Orange County, North Carolina are on free and reduced meals? That's 1 in 3 kids who can be considered food insecure. TABLE was founded in 2008 to help alleviate food insecurity among children living in Orange County by providing local kids with healthy, fresh food and nutrition education. We started serving 12 kids at one elementary school and have grown our programs to deliver food directly to the homes of 950 kids every week. Since 2008, TABLE has distributed over 2,880,000 healthy meals and snacks to local children. Through our food access and nutrition education programs, our goals are to improve children’s overall health; increase children’s knowledge of nutrition, positive attitudes toward healthy eating, and/or long-term healthy eating habits; ensure kids and families are engaged, involved, and feel dignified; and ensure kids have access to and eat sufficient nutritious food. Over the last year, TABLE has achieved some remarkable milestones including completing our Capital Campaign raising $3.25 million to purchase and renovate our new building, raising over $300k at our annual Empty Bowl Fundraiser - the most successful Empty Bowls ever, and moving into our new space where initially we will feed 1,000 kids with a goal to reach 3,000 children! As TABLE grows more everyday, TABLE is facing a challenge we have never seen in our history: a waitlist of over 300 kids and growing. We are living in a time where inflation is at its highest and it’s challenging to reach more donors. We need help now more than ever if we want to continue to give the children in our community healthy, sustainable lives. Please follow us to continue to learn more about us and ways you can help. https://tablenc.org #foodinsecurity #feedinglocalkids #orangecounty #helpingkids #nonprofit #tableinc #tablehistory

In recognition of today’s Hunger Action Day in Palm Beach County, Rales JFS employees participated in the #SNAPChallenge this month. By living only on the average daily SNAP allowance benefit, participants found themselves forced to make food shopping choices on a limited budget and attempted to stay healthy without adequate resources. Rales JFS Chief Operating Office, Beth Levine, described living on $9 a day for four days to be a significant challenge, requiring careful meal planning and budget shopping. Breakfast consisted of oatmeal ($1.35/day) and tea ($0.25/day). Lunch included hard-boiled eggs, lettuce, cucumber, and tomatoes ($2.75/day). Afternoon snacks were apples ($2.49/day). Dinner options varied between Publix chicken, broccoli, sweet potatoes, chicken breasts, and cauliflower, totaling $15.90 for four dinners. As a result, the four days' expenses came to $34.79, with much hunger experienced in the evenings. Family does not let family go hungry. Be a part of the solution by contributing to the Jacobson Family Food Pantry at http://ralesjfs.org/donate or by donating non-perishable goods to Rales JFS.
