On Thursday evening, fashion friends and family gathered at Dowling’s at the Carlyle to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Tanya Taylor’s namesake label. The chic dining scene transformed into a swanky lounge with an endless flow of Champagne and dirty martinis accompanied by the music of DJ Nikki Kynard, who set the tone for the evening with hits from the ’90s and early 2000s. Metallic balloons in colors of silver and pink suspended from the ceiling, and in the far back corner of the room, a claw machine (which was Taylor’s playful touch) brought everyone’s best arcade skills out, snagging teddy bears and Barbie dolls, as well as special treats from Dr. Barbara Sturm, Edie Parker, and Larroude. “I’ve been getting all the feels since this morning,” Taylor told Vogue, reflecting on the past 10 years since the launch of her brand. “Looking back at that time I first moved to New York from Toronto, and now seeing friends in the industry who are here to support and celebrate with me tonight, is just amazing.” Across the street from the iconic hotel, Taylor recently opened her first Madison Avenue flagship store. To celebrate a decade of playful prints and vibrant colorways, the retail space transformed into a museum-like showroom showcasing archive pieces from the past 10 years. Guests began to trickle in at 8 p.m. dressed in their best Tanya Taylor looks, from fringe and feathers to bold prints and autumnal hues. Chelsea Clinton was spotted dancing the night away, while Wes Gordon, Brandon Maxwell, and Christopher John Rogers showed support and made their rounds catching up with industry friends. Emmy Rossum and Lameka Fox took turns at the claw machine, and Huma Abedin and Samantha Barry shared endless laughs. Like most gracious hosts, Taylor made sure no one left empty-handed, giving away 240 goodie bags—all with a hand-painted thank-you card by Taylor herself. “It’s such a full-circle moment,” she shares. The labor of love took Taylor two full days to complete and was worth every ounce of effort she put into it. “I hand-painted every single invite to my first show, and today I decided to hand-paint thank-you cards to all the people who came to support after 10 years.”
