Love seeing AAPI leaders/orgs making the effort to be more inclusive and considerate of Pasifika communities! A quick note. To know us is to understand that culturally, it’s a huge no-no to ask us to perform labour without honoring our time and energy with a koha/meaalofa/gift. It’s actually quite disrespectful and even entitled to expect us to speak on your panels, read over your policies, make recommendations (the list goes on) FO FREE. It’s giving white. 🫣 Highly encourage y’all to investigate Pasifika protocols when engaging with Pasifika people. This is normalized in Aotearoa. I took it for granted and didn’t expect I’d have to constantly push for us to be paid for what’s essentially work. And to be clear, a nominal amount is fine when we know you’re balling on a budget. It’s the gesture that counts. PEAK has set a precedent for making a monetary offering to all our panelists/hosts/consultants, whether you’re Pasifika or not. I would hope this was an ideal practice for all advocacy based groups given what we do, especially when making asks of other marginalized folk. We don’t have anywhere near the finances of our AAPI counterparts but it’s a simple (yet significant) custom we prioritize cuz it’s an important way we show our alofa and take care of one another. If you want to show us that you value us (or that you don’t), you know what’s up. (This one’s on the house. 😉)

Doing the usual work of education in unusual ways! Critical Consciousness Coach | Educator | Leadership Consutant
This morning I had the pleasure of facilitating an engaging workshop along with Debra Enloe, CPDC, ACC, ACTC, IDI QA for the Positive Intelligence DEIB Community of Practice on "Co-Creating Frameworks to Sustain DEIBA in Organizations: Building Capacity for DEIB Practice." We discussed the need to include critical thinking in the processes of our DEIB and Anti-racism work and how to help leaders use critical thought to aid in building greater capacity for leading their teams toward equality, equity ad inclusion. I shared this thought "Information is dormant, until activated as knowledge" which resonated deeply with the group and created a robust dialogue about how we think about and use information and knowledge. In this fast-moving world where information is consumed on a constant basis, we cannot forget that until we actually use that information to engage in critical thinking beyond simple regurgitation of statements, it remains nothing more than dormant data. It is only when we apply the elements and actions of critical thought that information is transformed into knowledge which can then be used to make an impact. What thoughts does this bring to mind for you? If you are looking for a different experience with your DEIB and Racism Awareness Practice find out more at https://lnkd.in/gRQe5RN8 #informationisdormant #activateknowedge #positiveintelligence

May is AAPI Heritage Month, which serves as a time to honor the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. As we celebrate these rich cultures and histories, it is also important to address the disparities that persist in these communities. This article from Forbes sheds light on the overlooked health challenges faced by AAPI communities. https://conta.cc/4a4vs7j

Check out our upcoming webinar: Legislative Initiatives & Consulting with Indigenous Peoples. Learn about regional psychedelic initiatives and how to respectfully engage with Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities in the process. About the Webinar: While many cities and states consider legislation around psychedelic medicines, there are important considerations to be made beyond regulations and certifications for clinical use. Not only are there decriminalization provisions to be considered for spiritual, religious, and community use, but consultation with and protection of Indigenous Peoples rights and relationships as well as the rights of the medicines themselves must be included. Join PSMN Board Member, Christine Diindiisi McCleave, M.A. (Anishinaabe) to learn more about the various regional initiatives to create legal access to these medicines and how to respectfully engage with Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities in the process. https://lnkd.in/gBVc_faU
