May is AAPI Heritage Month, which serves as a time to honor the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. As we celebrate these rich cultures and histories, it is also important to address the disparities that persist in these communities. This article from Forbes sheds light on the overlooked health challenges faced by AAPI communities. https://conta.cc/4a4vs7j

The majority of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) believe the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction. However, the views of the AAPI community were found to be more optimistic than the general public. According to a November Amplify AAPI Monthly Survey conducted for The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and AAPI Data, 68% of people in the AAPI community think the country is headed in the wrong direction. Amplify AAPI is the largest, most representative public opinion panel of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. Through its rigorous, scientific approach, Amplify AAPI illuminates the diverse needs, opinions, and experiences of AANHPI communities. SERP-P NEW PUBLICATION: 25 Years of IPRA: The Indigenous Peoples’ Struggle Continues Published by the UP-Center for Integrative and Development Studies, this paper examines the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) through the experiences of Indigenous leaders and youth from Luzon and Mindanao. After historicizing the law’s passage and contextualizing the state of IP communities in the Philippines, the paper links the issue of Indigenous ancestral land with the dilemma of government bureaucracy and titling system. It also outlines the contradictions between the IPRA and other policies and practices. Access the full study here: https://lnkd.in/gR46Akrb

Fellow white folks, please don’t just celebrate Juneteenth, educate yourself. This weekend, many wht folks are off on their jet skis or beach vacations. Just another summer holiday to have fun in the sun. But Juneteenth can not solely be a celebration. It is both a tragedy and a victory that we must all understand. Juneteenth is celebrating the emancipation of people who had already been freed for 2 1/2 years. It’s just no one told them. Juneteenth is a remembrance for what this nation is capable of. We are capable of abolishing slavery, but we also have the capacity to force thousands of black bodies to march across the South to protect wht wealth. Today is another opportunity and reminder for all of us to do our own work to learn and dismantle racism and all other oppressive systems. In this country today, black mothers can get shot through front doors for protecting their children. Black men can’t run in the streets without being chased down. Black men can get chocked to death in a full subway car for being chewed up and discarded by the system. The racism that existed in 1865 is still with us today. It is holding all of us back and it’s destroying our planet. If we want a better world, we need to educate ourselves and listen to the people who are doing the work. My friend, Sharon Hurley Hall (she/her), just released her 2023 Top Voices in Anti-Racism. Give everyone a follow and see what you learn. It’s time that everyone, especially wht people, stand up against these systems.

Third presentation at the conference in two days finished. Conference also finished. Now the real work begins: we all believe our Horizon project Diacomet contains very relevant and innovative research on dialogical communication in all areas of EU societies. And we believe the results will be relevant for policy-makers, media professionals, educators, social media, NGOs and many others. In addition there are many clever and nice people involved, resulting in engaging meetings and brilliant (and sometimes mischievous) discussions. With Aukse Balcytiene, Kristina Juraite, Rozgonyi Krisztina, Tobias Eberwein, Ieva Ivanauskaitė and Romana BG. #Diacomet

On November 16-17 in 2023, we organized the POLICY&VALUES Conference in Warsaw, during which we gathered all the key issues that our Association addresses. We subjected these issues to various aspects of panel discussions. We present another recording - this time from the sixth panel: "Religious inspiration in responding to global crises" The climate crisis, the crisis of the public sphere, the crises of war are accompanied by a crisis of imagination. We have exchanged the hubris of the idea of the end of history for the habits of living in crises. It is important, however, to renew the sources of solidarity, social resilience, social mobilisation, which shake us out of this social malaise. Inspiration from religious traditions is important for being able to overcome this numbing of the imagination. In recent years, religious communities have been engaging with issues of social justice, intercultural dialogue, the climate crisis, peace by proposing solutions derived from specific traditions and at the same time bringing something important to secular public debate. Speakers: Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg – Senior Rabbi of Masorti Judaism UK Imam Ibrahim Mogra – Imam from Leicester, former Assistant Secretary General of the The Muslim Council of Britain Sebastian Duda – Editor of Więź lecturer at The Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences Mateusz Piotrowski - (chair) – President and co-founder of Europe, a Patient / Pacjent Europa

I love to start the day with a good case study on systems change. Good insight from Ilifa Labantwana on reframing ECD service provision. #systemschangepractitioners #earlychildhooddevelopment
The lessons from our systems work have been recorded in a case study, to elevate Global South systems thinking, by reflecting on the tactical and theoretical approaches honed by Ilifa Labantwana. The case study has valuable nuggets of wisdom, lessons learnt and reflections on Ilifa's systems change journey. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCZxqhmh
