GDC ´24 is in 8 weeks - i havent been to the US since before covid. so its time to attend again (and ofc with quite some colleagues from remote control productions and our partner studios:)). so who is up for a chat about making games together? i am also there to look for allies for Lesser Evil, to ponder if there is a need again to do EGBG (the event during crisis of our industry :)), talk with IP holders to bring them into games, find transmedia partners for some of our games incl. Songs of Silence (check it out, it esp. looks fabulous), test the waters if we finally bring in investment into rcp itself, discuss the future on multiple domains, nerd out and have a good time :) https://gdconf.com #games #gamesindustry Katerina Burbela 🔜 DICE Summit Oleksandra (Sasha) Volkohon 🔜 DICE Borys B. #100DaysOfSwift #Day55 #Day56 Today's game (project 14) is called whack-a-penguin. As usual, it's a pretty simple game, but I learned some cool features in Sprite Kit that will certainly be very helpful when making more complex games. Most notable is the ability to make a custom subclass of SKNode (the class that all objects visible inherit from) and add custom functionalities to it. In this project, we made a WhackSlot subclass of SKNode, which handled showing, hiding, and hitting penguin, all in a separate class. This adds a great layer of abstraction so that instead of moving the penguin up manually each time, we just write a "show" method on the WhackSlot class to show the penguin and call it on the whatever instance we want a penguin to pop out of. I also learned about SKCropNode (which is like a mask over other nodes) and how to play a sound in game (the screen record is silent but the game actually plays a sound when whacking a penguin). So yeah that's pretty much it. Be safe all :) #مسعديات
