The React team has just open-sourced the new experimental React Compiler. This build-time tool optimizes your React app automatically, without needing to rewrite any code to use it. The compiler automates optimizations like useMemo, useCallback, and React.memo, which will improve your app performance. A great feature is the Eslint plugin that comes with it, highlighting optimization opportunities right in your editor. This plugin is useful even if you’re not using the compiler. Meta preparing React Compiler React Compiler is a new experimental compiler that we’ve open sourced to get early feedback from the community. It is a build-time only tool that automatically optimizes your React app. It works with plain JavaScript, and understands the Rules of React, so you don’t need to rewrite any code to use it. The compiler also includes an eslint plugin that surfaces the analysis from the compiler right in your editor. The plugin runs independently of the compiler and can be used even if you aren’t using the compiler in your app. We recommend all React developers to use this eslint plugin to help improve the quality of your codebase. The React team has shared updates on several key projects: • React Compiler is no longer a research project, React Compiler is now in production on Instagram and set for open-source release, aimed at optimizing re-renders automatically. • Actions for client-server data management, now available in the Canary channel, simplifying form and data submission handling. • React Canary introduces new features like Directives, Document Metadata, Asset Loading, and Actions, enhancing development in various environments. React Conf 2024 is scheduled for May 15–16 in Henderson, Nevada! React 19 will be a major update, including Asset Loading, Document Metadata, and support for Web Components. This is a weird statement. Big changes will be coming up for React in 2024. The React compiler is a game-changer. Will React developers stop using hooks/hof like useMemo, memo, useCallback, useContext, context providers, forward refs, lazy, and...?

Amazing news! We no longer need useMemo, useCallback, and React.memo. The React Compiler is officially out as an open-source tool, and let me tell you, it’s really great. But what exactly is it, and how can we benefit from it? React Compiler is a new experimental compiler that has been open sourced few days ago by React team, to get early feedback from the community. It is a build-time only tool that automatically optimizes our React apps. It works with plain JavaScript, and understands the Rules of React, so we don’t need to rewrite any code to use it. For those who are React developers like me this is a great news. Since learning React, I've encountered edge cases where useEffect caused unnecessary re-renders due to incorrect dependency arrays (and many other things). To optimize these scenarios, I've relied on various memoization techniques like useMemo, useCallback, and React.memo. The React Compiler can now automatically handle many of these tasks, reducing the need for manual memoization in many cases. It's a great step forward!". It functions similarly to JavaScript engines like V8 and Hermes, performing complex optimizations such as dead code elimination and type inference.
