Thanks for telling me. You are safe here. Performance & behavior is all that matters here”, I said. Never too late to complete what you started Every Sunday for the last 36 months, I scramble to ensure my weekly online MBA assignments are submitted before 12mn Today, I can rest My 3-year journey with Jack Welch Management Institute’s (JWMI) online MBA program ended this month 12 courses (with a Capstone project) DONE! At 51 yrs old! Started my Master’s studies 31 years ago Finished all academic requirements But failed to complete my thesis The goal was parked Then forgotten In 2021, I saw a LinkedIn ad for JWMI 3 years just went by! It was chaotic squeezing study time with the 15-20 training classes I deliver for clients each month What’s good about taking up an MBA at a later stage in life is that your deep work experience makes it very easy for you to understand lessons & complete projects I was able to ‘connect the dots’ much faster Can’t wait to march in Washington DC! Proud Filipino to graduate from JWMI Yes, the 4.0 perfect GPA is one thing But becoming a better business leader That gave this JWMI journey greater meaning It’s never, never ever too late to complete what you started

It is better to be understaffed with the right people than to be overstaffed with the wrong ones. It is not the number of people you have in the team It is the mindset & skillset of people in your team that makes the difference

The real fast learner is a quick ‘un-learner’ “I’m a fast learner” I’ve heard this from a lot of job candidates and colleagues at work But they struggle to unlearn past attitudes, routines and habits that no are no longer helpful Even when the new knowledge, skills and habits make sense Our biggest struggle in learning new things is unlearning our past programming Here’s what to do: 1. LIST down the new routines that you need to succeed and the things you need to unlearn. If you don’t, you’ll default to old ways of doing things. 2. START your day by looking at that list, REMIND yourself of what you wrote. 3. STICK to your list, resist the temptation to do things the old way. 4. REFLECT and UPDATE your list as you end your day, “How well did I do learning new routines and discontinuing old habits? How can I do better? What new routines do I need to build in my list? What else do I need to unlearn?”

Nobody is 100% ready for a promotion from individual contributor (ICs) to a people manager role ICs think that they deserve the promotion because of their tenure/ seniority & technical expertise They get shocked when they get promoted that their technical skills do not guarantee people will follow them 3 Usual struggles of new leaders 1 - Delegation “I do it faster & better, so why delegate” 2 - Difficult Conversations “I don’t know how to confront people. I’m afraid I will offend them.” 3 - Driving Change & Management Directions “I don’t how to cascade change especially if I disagree with them…” If you are part of higher management, promote people & provide training immediately then follow-up with regular coaching. If you have just been promoted to your 1st people management role, demand that you be given training & coaching on how to transition to a management mindset & lead people.
