Stop building moats. Start building categories. Marketers are trained to wall off their product advantage. Trademark, patent, establish high barriers of entry and sue anyone who tries to copy you. Category designers know that makes no sense, because the company that dominates a category also dominates its market cap. The more entrants, the bigger the category value, the bigger the take. By designing a new category to solve a different solution, companies give themselves an unfair advantage and head start towards category domination.
