Fun Speed Drill to End Your Warm-Up With: Follow the Leader 🏃♂️ Here is a drill I took with a local football team at the end of the warm up. In pairs, one person is the leader and the other is the follower. The leader shuffles, and the follower tracks their movement until the leader decides when to go to a line on either side. The follower aims to beat them or tag them before they reach the line. ⬆ Speed ⬆ Reaction Time ⬆ Learning to be in an athletic position to move quickly in any direction. Progress by adding a turn and going back to the middle line, or try different starting positions. Races always provide fun, intent, and competitiveness to the group, so try to add races in your practice throughout the week. Give it a go and share how you get on. #speed #warmups #strengthandconditioning #sportstraining

The 2024 short track and road racing season is underway as the drive to the Paris Olympics is now underway. World Athletics has taken a new ranking approach as they have merged the the short track (formerly indoor track), long track (formerly outdoor track) and road racing into one list with World Athletics integrated ranking points. The following lists include short track results produced in December 2023. Canada has had the good fortune in the last decade to enjoy a gradual increase in both the medal count and top 8 performances at both the Olympic and World Championships. The upcoming Olympics and subsequent World Championships may see some of “The Post Pandemics Generation” who fall into the U23 category move closer to the top 8 spots in Paris. Think of University of Georgia sophomore, Chris Morales-Williams of Toronto who just broke the Canadian record in the short track 300m with his 32.47 performance. This converts very close to the Olympic stand of 45.00 in the 400m. Will Floyd, a freshman at Stanford University recorded 33.14 over the same distance. He set the Canadian U20 record of 45.31 in Langley, BC last summer. Matti Erickson of Nelson, BC started the 2024 season with a personal best of 2:20.96 in the 1000m, following his personal best in 2023 of 1:46.84 in 800m as a sophomore at the University of Oregon. Clearly the challenges of the Covid pandemic affected the development of others like Domenic Barresi of Cornell and Max Davies of the University of Guelph who in this early season rank in Canada’s top twenty list.

The secret to getting the most out of life is finding challenges suitable to your time and place. So let's talk about a crazy event called steeplechase. For those of you unfamiliar with the #trackandfield event it is a 3000-meter race (about 200 yards short of two miles) over thirty-five 42"-high wooden 4" X 4" barriers that do not budge if you hit them. There are also seven water jumps with the same 42" barrier in front of an inclined zero-depth pool 13 feet in length. At its base just under the barrier, the water depth is 2.5 feet. An adept steeplechaser is able to navigate this water jump getting just one foot wet during the race. As a former high jumper (6'1.5") and triple jumper (40'4") I was often able to leap beyond the twelve feet of water, land on the one-foot zone where the incline ended and keep both feet dry for a major part of the race. That's an advantage as wet shoes are slightly heavier. In this photo I'm stepping on the barrier in front of the water jump to launch over the water. Thus the event requires agility as well as endurance. My life in #basketball and other sports helped make steeplechase a choice event for me. I was able to run just under 9:20 in this event, qualifying for D3 nationals and winning three conference championships, even with all that hair on my young head. I cannot imagine steeplechasing these days, but man was it fun in its day. Youth is not wasted on the young. We move on to other endeavors. #running #run #track #competition #olympics

I will help you launch and transition to your new private practice. I also tackle pain points in your operations, systems and processes in your current private medical practice | YA Author | Triathlete | Runner
All great points as #privatepracticesuccess approach the 4th Q. I help in all aspects of the revenue cycle, cash flow, inventory, staffing and more. I experienced it for decades and have seen these cycles first hand. #privatepractice s should take a close look at the end of their 3rd quarter as they face the last few months of the year. Scheduling depends on the type of practice- is it surgical/procedural based? I recommend physicians and staff put the end of the year rush for elective surgeries on the radar of patients in August to schedule times for surgeries and appointment around the holidays. Inventory issues aren't as much of a concern, especially around large cities, such as Chicago. Medical supply manufacturers have quick access and promise delivery in a day or two. Suppliers have caught up post Covid. Staffing is always a challenge...do the best you can and cross train when you are able!
Learn what you should be thinking about for your #privatepractice at a hectic year’s end, and how to get off to the races in 2024.
