These "prodverbs" (aka production proverbs) capture general beliefs that SREs have (or, IMHO, should have) that I've collected over the past few years. These prodverbs provide insight into running services in production, and working as an SRE. Each prodverb links to a talk or article that describes the principles in more detail. This is our first collection of prodverbs — look for more here in the coming months! #GoogleCloudNext

Is Increasing maximum pods/node in Kubernetes under consideration for cost-saving purpose? 📌 It's subjective. 📎 Default: 110 Pods/node.Chaning 'maxPods' config in Kubelet requires restart. 🚫 Not recommended as it leads to much more overhead, resource contention, and logging. Watch out for more 🎬 . #Kubernetes #CostSavings.

Kubernetes: Is it a good idea? To save cost by increasing maximum number of Pods running on a single node? The answer is quite subjective. Here's my take. Kubernetes allows you to increase total number of pods that can run on a single node. The Default: 110 Pods/Node. How can you increase? By changing the "maxPods" config in Kubelet config. A Kubelet restart is needed. Now, here's the important bit. Is it recommended? I don't think so, for 3 solid reasons. 1. Increased overhead on kubelet. 2. Competition for resources (CPU, memory, & network). 3. Logging and monitoring (Volume of logs generated is high). It also causes more interesting problems. I will discuss one such problem in next post. Hope it's useful. Let me know what you think. A repost helps.♻️ Thank You. P.S. Each day offers a new start. Greet it with joy. SMILE 😊 #k8s #devops #kubernetes
