Looking forward to this conference! Thinking about how the field has developed since we started this initiative. Back in 2017 everyone was excited about brown fat activity in adult humans, and we discussed whether activating brown fat by decreasing room temperatures would counteract the obesity problem. But humans are great at keeping their body weight! In contrast to what was found in mice, the evidence for weight loss following brown fat activation in humans was not convincing. Hence, we started to discuss cross talk and potential feedback mechanisms to the brain. At the last CPHBAT meeting, in 2022, insulin sensitivity had been found to be strongly associated with brown fat activity in humans, independent of body weight. We still need to understand the mechanisms, but we started to think about how the small volumes of brown fat could be connected to insulin resistance and dysfunction of the rest of the adipose tissue depots. These thoughts were further emphasized by another big breakthrough that came with the single cell studies of both brown and white adipose tissues. These studies indicated a large diversity of adipocyte subtypes across depots and interestingly pointed out that not all adipocytes are insulin responsive in any depot. I wonder what exciting new data we will discuss this time.

🔬 Exciting Developments in our Research🔬 Thrilled to share the outstanding results from our in vivo study, led by our Chief Scientific Officer James (Jim) Roza, evaluating the efficacy of SophorOx®, a proprietary blend of quercetin and rutin, in combating oxidative stress and inflammation. I read here https://lnkd.in/dtfWd3u2 Recent initiatives such as EPAD, TRIBEKA, and AMYPAD have sparkled a European Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease (Euro-PAD) collaboration of Parent Cohorts and sites that are actively collaborating to unravel the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease pathophysiology and cognitive decline. The Euro-PAD consortium is the consolidation and expansion of previous partnerships that have paved the way to create the current collaborative network. It includes several cohorts such as EPAD-LCS, EMIF-AD, AMYPAD-PNHS, ALFA+, Prevent-AD, Microbiota and SCIENCe. More information about Euro-PAD will be shared soon.
