Since the devastating 2023 Türkiye #earthquake, we’ve been working tirelessly to support recovery and #culturalheritage conservation in EAntakya, Hatay Province, the city worst affected by the disaster – and remain the only international organization doing so by invitation of the Turkish authorities. Last month, WMF’s Senior Program Manager and scientific consulting team were on the ground in Antakya to assist with emergency stabilization on the Antioch Greek Orthodox Church and the Antioch Synagogue, two icons of the city’s rich culture. We are grateful to our partners and the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for supporting urgent restoration efforts at these #WorldHeritage sites. Read more about our work here: https://lnkd.in/eQVAKj-g World Monuments Fund’s work at Antakya Earthquake Heritage Sites has been made possible, in part, by the U.S. Department of State U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation and the U.S. Mission to Türkiye. #CulturalHeritage #WorldHistory #Earthquake #AmerikanBüyükelçiliği #USEmbassyTurkiye

🗓 Join us on Thursday, July 11 at the Ukrainian Institute of America in #NewYorkCity for a pressing conversation about the ongoing efforts to safeguard Ukraine’s cultural heritage. Since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of #Ukraine in February 2022, over 2,000 cultural #heritage places and institutions – including landmarks, memorials, monuments, and places of worship and burial – have been damaged or destroyed by Russian military action, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. Sharing insights from our #crisisresponse work at the Teacher’s House in #Kyiv; the Chernihiv Regional Library for Youth; and more, WMF Ukraine Heritage Crisis Specialist Kateryna Goncharova will explore the state of heritage sites across the country, and what we can do to support them. RSVP now: https://lnkd.in/eSu_fHbJ Photo: Catherine’s Church, Chernihiv, Ukraine. Courtesy of Zoryana and Matviy Pohranychny (Heritage Monitoring Lab - HeMo).

Today is the second annual Antiquities Day in #Jordan! To commemorate this new holiday, explore our work at UNESCO World Heritage site Qusayr 'Amra and at our Building Conservation Capacity trainee program in Mafraq. An 8th century desert castle, Qusayr 'Amra’s extraordinary murals depict hunting scenes, Byzantine-style portraits of rulers from Spain to China, scenes from everyday secular life, and the zodiac.
