After three failed attempts !!! I am reflecting upon most painful experiences in this new year, long term client of mine buzzed and sent a SOS message to fill in five temporary roles. But that is not the painful part, we been given a requirement on a napkin with handwritten notes. Requirement is typical, so boom just posted for profiles, screened, and setup for interviews after 25 profiles no one is happy neither client or my team. So I took a pause, buzzed my mentor she is source of inspiration and I always lookup lookup to her. The key ingredient missing is context, so I setup 20 min with hiring manager understood the requirement what is tactical need Vs strategic need. Crafted the requirement in mind to hire for future but also have small team for tactical and can be upskilled to put off the fire. And as renewed attempt suppled we supplied eight profiles for give roles but this time tailored and coached and all eight got selected and we kept three for backup and last minute surprises. Lessons learnt, As AI tech is evolving, and new stack is coming to market, invest into your hiring team to upskill to point they understand the need and establish context and validate the credentials of the resources.
