USCIB was pleased to host a member discussion today with Julia Nielson, Deputy Director for the Trade and Agriculture Directorate (TAD) at OECD - OCDE. Deputy Director Nielson provided a detailed review of OECD work on the key issues before TAD, including data flow, digital trade, supply chain resiliency, industrial subsidies, and trade promotion. She also updated USCIB members on the state of current OECD accession discussions now that talks with Thailand have launched. Importantly, there was a discussion on the value of private sector inputs at the OECD and future opportunities at upcoming supply chain and sustainability forums. About us
The United States Council for International Business (USCIB) advances the global interests of American business. We do so through advocacy that calls for an open system of world trade, finance and investment, where business can flourish and contribute to economic growth, human welfare and environmental protection. No other American business organization provides its members with better access to key intergovernmental bodies worldwide. USCIB’s advocacy spans a broad range of policy issues, leveraging the expertise of our business members and a unique network of global business organizations: the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Business at OECD, and the International Organization of Employers (IOE). Through these organizations’ official consultative status in major intergovernmental forums, USCIB represents American business positions both to the U.S. government and to such organizations such as the UN system, the OECD and the International Labor Organization. The Power to Shape Policy. The Power to Expedite Trade.

In a letter sent today to Ambassador Katherine Tai, Secretary Antony Blinken, and Secretary Gina Raimondo, USCIB and representatives of US businesses from virtually every sector of the US economy called upon the Biden Administration to maintain investor safeguards in US trade and investment agreements, including national treatment and access to neutral, independent dispute settlement. These safeguards are fundamental to incentivizing and protecting US foreign direct investment (FDI) abroad that will power the green transition and help the United States grow its economy, compete with China, and promote resilient supply chains. Additionally, it would be counterproductive to remove these critical safeguards at a time when US FDI has never been more important to achieving US economic and foreign policy objectives. A successful 2024 #ILC delegation led by USCIB's Ewa Staworzynska - see below for details!
Corporate Diplomat | B20 Member | Ex-DoorDash, Ex-UN | Government Affairs and Sustainability Enthusiast | NACC Board Member
One of the most fun parts of my job is leading the US employer delegation to the annual International Labour Conference (#ILC), where #laborstandards are negotiated and international #laborpolicy is agreed upon. This year's ILC was a great success, with brilliant delegation participants from top US companies🇺🇸🇺🇳🌍 Some highlights: - We completed the first half of the negotiations on a new international labor standard on #biohazards in the workplace. - We agreed upon policy recommendations for #decentwork in the #careeconomy, as well as for the implementation of fundamental principles and #rightsatwork. - The International Labour Organization Global Coalition for Social Justice was inaugurated, and USCIB is a proud partner. The strength of the ILO and its impact on labor issues globally is rooted in its tripartite structure. No other UN entity brings together workers, employers and governments. Despite long nights and, at times, challenging negotiations, this year's ILC is an important reminder that tripartite agreement brings value to labor policy and global development. Already excited for next year's ILC! 🙌🏻 Many thanks to the delegation Tom Mackall Jose A. United States Council for International Business (USCIB) reposted this
🚀 The ILO Global Coalition for #SocialJustice is officially launched! 📌 Over 250 partners and stakeholders attended the inaugural forum of this key ILO initiative during #ILC2024 at the United Nations Office at Geneva. 🗣 Datuk Syed Hussain Syed Husman, President of the Malaysian Employers Federation; Jacqueline Mugo, EBS, Executive Director of the Federation of Kenya Employers; Daniel Funes de Rioja, President of Unión Industrial Argentina; and Roberto Suárez Santos, IOE Secretary-General, brought the employers' perspective to dialogues focused on building resilient societies, improving policy coherence, and fostering social dialogue for shared prosperity. 🔎 The Global Coalition for Social Justice aims to intensify collective efforts to address social justice deficits and accelerate the implementation of the #2030Agenda for #SustainableDevelopment, the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals, and the Decent Work Agenda. 💼 Building on the strength of the Centenary Declaration, we must support the #PrivateSector with increased #productivity, #skills development, and an enabling environment for sustainable #business growth. 🤝 The profound transformations in work and business due to new #technologies, including #AI, require a new mindset for #partnerships. This coalition is about #multilateralism, and this is our main expectation from it. ✔ We welcome and strongly support this Coalition, as enhancing advocacy, promoting policy coherence, and generating knowledge through cooperation is essential for businesses and employers. Acting with efficient partnerships and mobilising resources and expertise to address informality, a conducive business environment, poverty, child labour, or youth unemployment is urgent and necessary. 🌟 We are grateful for the ILO Office's instrumental role in shaping this collaboration. Their efforts have laid a strong foundation for this well-designed and powerful Coalition, which, under ILO leadership and with the participation of other UN organisations, trade unions, NGOs, and stakeholders, has the potential to effect real change. Count on #Employers' strong commitment to the make this Coalition a success! #VoiceofBusiness #SocialJustice #SustainableEnterprises #HumanRights #Employment #JustTransitions #SustainableDevelopment #SocialDialogue #VoiceofBusiness
