"Currently, apparel and footwear production is responsible for an estimated 4%-8.6% of global greenhouse gas emissions....the $2.5 trillion industry contaminates water, uses toxic chemicals, contributes to deforestation, creates staggering amounts of waste, and exploits workers...." 😴 We may be becoming accustomed to these metrics, but we should not become complacent! Did you know that in the US, there are currently no legally binding environmental standards placed on the apparel and footwear industries? Does this mean that ANY retailer can operate without considering their environmental and social sustainability whatsoever? Yes. Self-regulation has proven to be ineffective. We can't rely solely on the goodwill of individual consumers and sustainability teams, the industry requires legislative assistance. The Fashion Sustainability and Social Accountability Act (Fashion Act) aims to establish, for the first time, legally binding environmental and labor standards for the industry. This is a crucial step towards the fashion world's future and why we support the Fashion Act. Support them. Support their work. ℹ We've joined almost 100 brands to support the Fashion Act. To learn more and share your voice, visit www.thefashionact.org. #ActOnFashion Thanks to Maxine Bédat Sophia Li, New Standard Institute and, countless other individuals and organizations who have been unrelenting in their work to move this bill forward 📈 Let's get em!

Why is 3D weaving good for business? Read our latest post for a deep dive into how 3D weaving machines save on the cost of making clothing. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dPyWKvtH 🥜 In a nutshell It's faster 💨 3D weaving is a technology that establishes a new, condensed process for making clothes, in which fabric preparation and clothing assembly are combined into one step. It's more efficient 💸 This new process, called Vega™ manufacturing, incurs fewer expenses to make woven clothes compared to conventional apparel manufacturing. It's automated 🦾 Vega™ 3D weaving machines save on costs by automating and speeding up production while using less energy compared to conventional machines.

The ACT (American Circular Textiles) coalition seeks to establish U.S. leadership in textile waste and circular fashion policy. To support the work that they are doing is a no-brainer for us! Their most recent push is to support the Americas Trade and Investment Act (the “Americas Act”. Introduced by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Michael Bennet (D-CO). If passed, it would mark a historic milestone for the US textile industry. The bill incorporates over $14 billion in federal incentives to catalyze domestic circularity, innovation, and education for textiles, apparel, footwear, accessories, and home linens. If you are in the textile industry, check it out! Let's go 🇺🇸 Rachel Van Metre Kibbe Lindsey Troop CSG (Circular Services Group)

We're delighted to look back on the first-ever unspun Summit, which took place last Thursday during SF Climate Week. It was a gathering that brought together a group of #fashion #innovators, thought leaders, activists, familiar faces, and new friends at our HQ and microfactory. United by a shared vision to catalyze change within the fashion industry, the Summit was about much more than just knowledge sharing. Check out https://lnkd.in/dWrhYD8N for a complete summary and panel recording. 🎤 Our highlight was a panel discussion about the legislative landscape, localization, and circularity within the fashion industry. Led by unspun co-founder, Beth Esponnette, with expert panelists such as Prof. Dr. Subramanian Senthilkannan Muthu, PhD in Environmental Life Cycle Assessment, Rachel Van Metre Kibbe, and remake.world's Sophia Marie Poulos. The panel shed light on the complexities of fashion legislation in the U.S., exploring the implications of these legislative measures for fashion innovators and discussing the necessary steps for bills like the Americas Act to be successfully passed. The panel also explored ways to support these crucial initiatives. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, bringing their unique perspectives, expertise, and passion to the table. It is through collaborations like these that we can drive real change in our community and the fashion industry as a whole. A special thanks to Huue, OurCarbon, PROWL Studio, Jeanologia, Green Story and ACT (American Circular Textiles) 💚 Velocity is the prerequisite of momentum. Let's go!

It's a new spin on manufacturing clothing. 🧵 We're partnering with unspun™ on a pilot project using their Vega 3D weaving technology, eliminating the cutting and sewing of flat fabric and going straight from yarn to garment—almost like magic. Not only does this reduce waste and create a more sustainable supply chain—it can help bring clothing manufacturing back to the U.S. We're starting by applying the technology to create men's chinos, so soon these pants will be having their own Cinderella moment. ✨👖 Read more: https://bit.ly/3PkUCak
