Today, like most days, I’m beyond grateful for this incredible career in B2B tech that I literally stumbled into. Anyone else show up for an ‘International Management Trainee’ interview in the mid 2000’s and end up shocked to learn it was actually an entry level sales gig? I 👀 you, Meltwater. Literally the best ‘mistake’ of my life. Lots of hard work, lots of years, lots of learning, and LOTS of lucky breaks later I’ve built one heck of a career, and I try not to take a second of it for granted. It’s a career that I love, and one that has provided incredible opportunities for me and my family. But I still have my moments. Moments when I look around and realize I’m the only woman in the room. Or the only woman on the zoom. Or the only woman on the Slack. Or the only woman on the thread. And on and on... The only woman at the table, both literally and figuratively. I’m told that we’ve come a long way towards gender parity, and I guess the success that I’ve experienced so far validates that as truth. But at least in tech, which is the echo-chamber that is my life most days, we sure as heck have a long way to go. 🥂 So cheers to the powerhouse women in my network that are out there making it happen today. 🥂 To the sellers, the technologists, the leaders, the advocates. To the women warriors that are fighting the fight to get more of us not only to the table but to the head of the table. Let’s continue talking about, dreaming of, and planning for a day when our daughters just might not be the only women in whatever spaces they choose to occupy. 🩷
