Our Tikkurila by PPG brand recently sought to renew its retail store presence with a display concept that emphasized sustainability. The team piloted the display concept in select stores in Finland over the course of 2023. When designing the display concept, the goal was to develop a model using high quality, durable materials that could be used in stores for many years. The new and improved displays consist of 89% renewable materials and use 100% recovered wood. The display concept also provides value to consumers. It features an interactive lighting system that lets consumers see how their paint will look in different settings, helping them make more accurate color choices. This new concept helps minimize waste, while also highlighting Tikkurila's status as a premium Nordic brand. The concept was designed for all countries where Tikkurila is available. The updated displays will be made available across all major stores in Finland over the next three years. We donated more than 150 liters of our marine coatings to help refurbish, protect and beautify a marine service boat that will be used for the education of more than 200 students at a vocational school in Turkey. “This donation is an important contribution to technical education and training for students in our community,” said Gizem Gurson Impram, our HR country coordinator, Turkey. “It is often a challenge for schools to provide a real-life environment for students to learn and practice. With this boat, shipbuilding students will learn practical skills in maintenance and painting, while maritime students will gain hands-on experience using the engine room and wheelhouse.” The donation is part of our global commitment to support education and workforce development initiatives. Throughout Pride Month, our LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Network (ERN) is taking the lead in celebrating the vibrant diversity and rich history of the LGBTQ+ community. Our locations worldwide are joining in the Pride Month festivities by participating in parades and insightful discussions. Our Comex team in Mexico held an event, “The Colors of our Pride,” which included panel discussions about diversity, equity and inclusion, sharing personal experiences, identifying best practices and inspiring further inclusion efforts. More than 2,000 people joined in via streaming and in-person attendance to listen to the panel discussions, which were moderated by Claudia Contreras, our marketing director, Architectural Coatings, Latin America; Javier Sosa Mejía, our vice president of Architectural Coatings in Latin America and president of PPG Comex; and Socorro De Luna, our senior human resources business partner, Architectural Coatings, Latin America. Our LGBTQ+ ERN is also inviting our employees to participate in a webinar, “Embracing Diversity, Empowering Unity: Celebrating the Intersection of Asian and LGBTQ+ Cultures with Laura Gao (she/they).” Gao, a queer author and illustrator, will be sharing her unique insights and experiences. We have achieved a 40% reduction in marine coating overspray with the electrostatic application of our PPG SIGMAGLIDE® 2390 fouling release coating. The results were validated at EDR Antwerp shipyard in Europe in a project on the underwater hull of a passenger vessel. The electrostatic application has increased transfer efficiency compared to airless spraying, resulting in reductions in overspray and waste, and combined with the low VOC emissions of our PPG Sigmaglide coating, provides cleaner operation and an improved work environment for the applicators. “Ship owners and shipyards are being encouraged to look for innovative solutions in order to comply with stricter environmental regulations and meet their sustainability goals,” said Sijmen Visser, our sales director, Marine EMEA, Protective and Marine Coatings. “We see an increased demand not only for biocide-free and copper-free hull coatings to reduce vessel emissions, but also for more sustainable application procedures by yards.
