    Businesses are built on repeat revenue. The bigger the business, the more revenue is driven from existing customers. If you're in the one-and-done business, you have a short runway and are likely going to peak then collapse. If you're wanting to stay in business for any length of time, and achieve compounding growth, you need a business strategy that prioritizes customer retention, recurring / repeat revenue, and maximizing lifetime revenue per customer. That often starts from: • Your product set • Your business model • Your customer universe / TAM And it ISN'T exclusively a function of your marketing despite what an agency will tell you. If only a small minority of your customers buy more than once, you're essentially a dead-business-walking. Here's some data to simplify and demonstrate my point. The same business with just different repeat rates: • 10% repeat: +11% revenue • 25% repeat: +33% revenue • 50% repeat: +98% revenue • 75% repeat: +247% revenue This is based off of: • 5000 initial customers in a given period • $100 AOV • Up to a max of 7 purchases per year (1 new + 6 rpt) • Each subsequent order is multiplied by the rpt rate For example the 10% repeat business: • 5000 customers x $100 AOV = $500k initial revenue --- 500 customers buy a 2nd time --- 50 customers buy a 3rd time --- 5 customers buy a 4th time --- ~1 customer buys a 5th time --- 0 buy more than 5 times • Total revenue: $555k ($500k + $55k from repeat) Compare that to the 75% repeat biz drives the same 5000 initial orders, but an additional 12.3k repeat orders, with a total revenue up to $1.7M vs $500k. You see that expressed in revenue / customer (LTR) too: in which the 10% business has an LTR of $111 but the 75% business has an LTR $347. I come across SO MANY BRANDS that are extremely focused on how to acquire customers, how to send more emails, how to squeeze out every drop they can out of their marketing. And so much of it is fruitless. I pop their customer file into nova (our tool at Power) and see that <10% of their customers ever buy more than once. Sorry, but, you've got a critical product market fit issue, not a marketing issue. Net net: the tail doesn't wag the dog. Figure out your recurring revenue strategy BEFORE you start investing millions of dollars in non-incremental ads to acquire one-and-done customers. #ltv #ecommerce #dtc
