Excited for the F.A.T. Mankei Opening in 2024! Another year that marks the opening of F.A.T. Mankei along Austria’s iconic Großglockner High Alpine Road. As the official Timing Partner, we are delighted to welcome motorsport enthusiasts back to F.A.T. Mankei - a premier destination for car enthusiasts worldwide. In celebration of this prestigious event, Porsche Design has unveiled the special textile/leather “Mankei Strap”. The dedicated timepiece strap pays tribute to F.A.T. Mankei, where petrol heads and the F.A.T. International community gather. More than a meeting place, it offers a restaurant, café, accommodations, and serves as a global venue for racing fans. Our reinterpretation of the iconic “Mankei”, inspired by the Pinzgau term for marmots, can be found on the Chronograph 1 Utility between 4 and 5 o’clock, symbolizing our collaboration with F.A.T. International at their legendary Grossglockner location. The dawning of a new era for Porsche Design Timepieces. Porsche Design is solidifying its commitment to watchmaking with the purchase of a new building in Grenchen, Switzerland, a renowned watchmaking hub. This historic building, formerly the headquarters of the Eterna brand, will become Porsche Design's new watch manufactory, offering more space for innovative developments and high-quality timepiece production. The site will include areas for product development, quality management, after-sales service, logistics, and modern offices, with renovation set to start in October 2024 and completion expected by the third quarter of 2025. This expansion reflects Porsche Design's dedication to excellence and meeting a growing demand in the watch industry. What do you call a product that traces its roots back to the original Chronograph I from 1972 and still wins awards for its iconic design more than 50 years later? We call it the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition, the iF Design Award jury calls it iF Design Award “Product Design” Winner 2024. The iF Design Award has been awarding outstanding design, ideas, form, function and influence for over 70 years and is considered a major seal of design excellence around the world. The jury consists of 132 international experts. This year there were more than 10,800 entries in 9 overarching categories. Safe to say, our design team and the team at our watchmaking facility in Solothurn, Switzerland have excelled themselves. Following the German Design Award, the iF Design Award is the second major design award for the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition that we’ve taken home in as many months.  Receiving major design awards for a timepiece inspired by our original founding product is proof of the timelessness of outstanding design as well as a testament to the continuation and evolution of our founder’s iconic legacy.
