Congratulations Diana, a registered nurse from the Emergency Department at PIH Health Downey Hospital, for winning the DAISY Award! Diana is recognized for taking time out of her busy schedule to assist a concerned patient that left his car window open. Despite being incredibly busy with critical patients, Diana wheeled the patient to the parking lot to secure the vehicle. “Thanks to Diana’s kindness, the patient felt he could trust the nursing staff at PIH Health to provide him with compassionate care at all times,” shared a colleague. Thank you, Diana, for putting Patients First.

On Thursday, PIH Health Downey Hospital, PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital and PIH Health Whittier Hospital participated in a one-day coalition decontamination (decon) drill hosted by PIH Health. These drills are an important way for our hospitals to maintain the skills needed to keep our community safe. Additional participants included decon teams from several other local hospitals, including Greater El Monte Community Hospital, Norwalk Community Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, Coast Plaza Hospital, and Whittier Medical Center. The training was an excellent opportunity for decon teams to learn and enhance their emergency response skills—practicing the necessary roles to ensure safe outcomes for both the patients and responding staff, as well as the proper way to don and doff personal protective equipment. PIH Health is proud to be part of Los Angeles County’s Disaster Resource Centers network, and we thank our PIH Health Decon Team members for their commitment to the community through emergency preparedness.
