The Leaderboard is Live! 2024 Congressional Physical Activity Challenge The Congressional Physical Activity Challenge (sponsored by PAA and Myzone®) is an annual competition involving the offices of the US Congress in a bid to achieve the highest level of physical activity. The Challenge is held each May for the duration of National Physical Fitness and Sport Month and open to all members of Congress & their congressional staff and interns, committee staff and leadership staff. View the leaderboard to see how offices are doing --> https://lnkd.in/gJZKFcyj *About MEPs (Myzone Effort Points): Calculated from individual heart rate data, participants’ effort is split into five zones, and each zone represents a percentage of their maximum heart rate. Every time they move, they’ll earn MEPs for every minute they’re in a zone. *The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity cardiorespiratory exercise per week (and more for improved fitness benefits). This equates to 300 MEPs per week and 1300 MEPS per month. As you can see from the leaderboard, most teams have surpassed this goal and we still have more than a week to go! Always a privilege and honor to present on the great work the Physical Activity Alliance and the Coalition for the Registration of Exercise Professionals are doing to elevate the exercise professional as a critical component of the healthcare delivery system. My fellow panelists Amy Bantham, DrPH, Graham Melstrand, and Francis Neric, MS, MBA are amazing and passionate thought-leaders spearheading the professionalization effort. Thank you to the American College of Sports Medicine for giving us the platform to speak about this important work.

Four years ago, three national organizations focused on physical activity merged into one broadly based, powerful voice for physical activity promotion in America: The Physical Activity Alliance Since then, we've grown to 18 board organizations, held our 1st Physical Activity Symposium, released the U.S. Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth, launched a new National Physical Activity Plan sector (Military Settings), made remarkable progress to elevating physical activity assessment, prescription, and referral as a standard of healthcare, engaged Capitol Hill and Federal agencies, and are in the midst of our 4th Annual Congressional Physical Activity Challenge! None of this would have been possible without the support of our board, partners, supporters, staff, and volunteers. We cannot wait to see what the next 4 years of PAA will produce, and how many more people we can inspire to #MoveWithUS! #PhysicalActivity #PublicHealth #MoveInMay #ActivePeople Laurie Whitsel, Ph.D., FAHA Thomas Richards Ayanna McKnight, MPH, CPH Pam Watts, CAE Vicki Shepard Michael Stack Jean Tips Cate Collings, MD, MS, FACC, FACLM Monte Ward Mike Goscinski Mike Leveque Amy Bantham, DrPH Amy Rauworth Amy Callender Kristy Anderson Monte Ward NiCole Keith Marzell Gray Alan M. Happy National Public Health Week! This year's theme is “Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health.” Sharing these words from American Public Health Association: "The focus is not just the ways public health serves our communities — protecting and increasing our access to clean water and air, to nutritious and safe foods, to the right and ability to access essential health services — but the ways our communities flourish when they have their needs met. Picture this: a world where equity isn't just a buzzword, but a guiding principle. Communities are at the heart of decision-making and actively shaping their health, not sidelined. Public health's future is all about teaming up — joining forces with unexpected partners from different sectors and centering community voices. This future is about tearing down barriers, not just fixing problems but preventing them altogether. It's making sure every person has access to the support and care they need for a healthier life." #PhysicalActivity #NPHW2024 #MoveWithUS
