It's an honor to be a part of this year’s Inc. Magazine #FemaleFounders 250 in great company with so many friends tagged below. Partake Foods is built in community and collaboration. It takes a village and I am grateful to those who are with me on the journey. Being a founder is a whole life commitment. If I can impart anything to those thinking of jumping in the pool: ✨ Having a peer community and advisors you trust are critical. Build a community that understands what you're experiencing and has your best interests at heart. ✨ Starting small is often better. Gives you an ability to test and learn, be nimble, get in front of consumers and really make your product what people will want. ✨ The "playbook" isn't always best for your business because times have changed/each business is so different. ✨ It's a marathon, not a sprint. Taking care of your mental, physical and emotional health are so important. ✨ You have to be all-in. This will take a huge part of your life on a micro and macro level. In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we are recognizing an incredible women-led CPG company. Partake Foods was founded by Denise Woodard, a mom who saw delicious, shareable, allergy-friendly foods missing from store shelves when her daughter, Vivi, was born with several food allergies. Seeking better options and coming up way short, Denise—with a decade of CPG and food & beverage experience—decided to create her own. What started as selling cookies from her car is now a growing line of cookies in 14,000 stores nationwide. I don't know a woman who wasn't in some parts inspired and heartbroken when they heard America Ferrera's "Woman" speech in the Barbie Movie. So much of what women navigate in society is so well articulated in those few minutes on film. When I heard Rita Moreno's Oscar tribute to America Ferrera, the speech immediately flashed again to my mind. Maybe it did for you, too. I heard it though, in my head, from the lens of a Black female entrepreneur—and what came next felt like it wrote itself. I took my thoughts to paper in this month's Inc. Magazine article. I was honored to receive the Kara Roell Achievement Award Wednesday night from Women in Consumer! I never had the honor of meeting Kara, but her legacy lives on in the memories and stories shared by so many—she was truly a pioneer and champion for other women who “found a way or made one.” Big shoes, particularly considering past recipients are titans in their own right: Chris Lansing & Leigh Keith. Vanessa Dew, Chuck M., and Lindsay Levin: Thank you for sharing a few words. I appreciate each of you. Partner Appreciation Post: Walmart A huge "Thank you!" to the team at Walmart for leaning in and supporting Partake Foods. From the national commercial below to Urban One Honors, to multi-city activations, to listening ears and strategic partnership, each of these folks have shown up for me and our company. Getting to share a bit of the Partake story with Vivi in a nationally televised commercial seemed impossible to me in 2016.
