Households, corporates, governments and financial institutions are all exposed to water risks. The costs are high. Globally, flooding in 2021 alone led to USD 82 billion in economic losses, of which only USD 20 billion were insured. In developing economies, lack of basic water and sanitation is estimated to cause economic losses of USD 260 billion every year. This blog by Lylah Davies and Sophie Trémolet examines how our economies are contributing to increasing water risk, as well as the financial sector's impacts and dependencies on water. https://brnw.ch/21wJVmc

People with disabilities face persisting difficulties in the labour market. Poor AI management could exacerbate these issues. Yet, AI also has the potential to create more inclusive and accommodating environments and might help remove some of the barriers faced by people with disabilities in the labour market. This paper, based on interviews with over 70 stakeholders, examines the potential of AI to help individuals with disabilities find work, taking into account both the transformative potential of AI-powered solutions and the hazards of using AI for disability. It also covers AI's barriers and what governments may do to minimize hazards and capture opportunities to empower disabled workers in the employment market. How can child empowerment nurture the next generation of leaders and changemakers? New publication "What does child empowerment mean today?" launched today, with opening remarks from Secretary-General Mathias Cormann and Director for Education and Skills, Andreas Schleicher. Developing digital skills is a key part of child empowerment, to ensure students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a world where proficiency in technology is a prerequisite for many careers. Digital devices and media engagement pose potential risks on children, ranging from cyberbullying to exposure to dis and misinformation. To thrive in an increasingly digitalised world, students need to be taught how to explore diverse perspectives, conduct research, and critically evaluate the credibility and reliability of online information. ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wJNt5 | #ChildEmpowerment
