"This is kind of a full circle, thinking about my grandmother, thinking about her Parkinson's, [and] my Parkinson's. [I'm] running because of her and because of what she and I share." Brooklyn native John Bianchi's first core memory was a trip to Coney Island with his grandparents. 🎢 Nearly 60 years later, John shares his story of running the 2024 #RBCBrooklynHalf, his Parkinson's diagnosis, and how running has positively impacted his journey, from the physical benefits to the emotional. 66 years of NYRR! 🎉🥳 Today, NYRR celebrates its 66th anniversary. 🎂 We were founded in the Bronx on June 4, 1958, and led by Ted Corbitt, the first African American to compete in the Olympic marathon. We spearheaded the first New York City Marathon in 1970, and six years later, we took it out of Central Park and made it the amazing five-borough event the world has come to know. In 1999, we began offering youth programming and now we serve over 137,000 kids nationwide, including 60,000 in New York City, with free #RisingNYRR physical education resources for educators. We host 16 free, weekly community run/walks across New York City and Jersey City parks with #NYRROpenRun, provide free walking and fitness programs at 19 local sites with #NYRRStriders, among many other community-focused initiatives. Our mission continues and here's to 66 more. 🥳💙

Happy Pride! 🏳️🌈 Today is the first day of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, an annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer pride. Pride Month began after the Stonewall uprising of 1969—considered the start of the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. All throughout June, we’ll be highlighting LGBTQIA+ runners, groups, and initiatives across our channels. We look forward to celebrating all month long!💙 Learn more: https://bit.ly/3X40R6Z

“For so many people who have shared their stories, they didn’t even realize the stories they had been holding inside and the freedom that comes from putting your story out there.” - Carolyn Su, Founder of DiverseWeRun and NYRR Contributors Circle member This May, we welcomed Carolyn Su to the NYRR offices to share her story with staff in honor of #AAPIHeritageMonth! Carolyn sat down with #TeamNYRR Copywriter Stephanie Loleng [pictured left] to discuss her work, her experience, and her passion for storytelling. As the founder of @DiverseWeRun, Carolyn highlights and features the stories of runners who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Carolyn also co-hosts the podcast Making Strides, where she discusses the intersection of race and running with professional ultrarunner and physician Stefanie Flippin.
