Last week, an award ceremony was held to honor Dr. John Hatch, one of the legendary founders of the Health Center Movement. In the 1960s, Mr. Hatch played a pivotal role in establishing the Delta Health Center in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, alongside Drs. Jack Geiger and Count Gibson. "John Hatch is one of the most selfless, kind, considerate, compassionate, and smartest persons I have ever met. Dr. Hatch has devoted his life and service to ensuring all people have access to quality preventive and primary care." - John A. Fairman, CEO, Delta Health Center, Inc. Dr. Hatch recognized citizen participation as crucial to empowering communities and finding solutions to health needs. He helped establish training programs to qualify community members as health providers, ensuring the long-term success of the health center. Dr. Hatch continued his public service in health promotion, conducting numerous programs to improve health outcomes in faith communities in the South. Additionally, he has served as a professor at Tufts University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We appreciate the recognition of Dr. Hatches’ remarkable achievements for community health centers by National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) president and CEO Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP. Delta Health Center, Inc. expresses gratitude to Dr. Hatch for the revolutionary impact he brought to DHC and the surrounding Delta Community. #deltahealthcenterinc #valuechcs

  • Despite bipartisan support in Congress, the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program will run out of funds at the end of 2024, this new KFF article reminds us. And yet the evidence is clear: Compared to traditional, hospital-based residencies, residents trained at Community Health Centers -- as with the Teaching Health Center program -- are twice as likely to pursue employment at a safety-net provider and three times more likely to practice in underserved communities. Support for training in a community-based setting, like the Teaching Health Center program, must be part of the solution to the primary care workforce crisis. https://lnkd.in/dHiTDDPA #PrimaryCareGap #HealthWorkforce #ValueCHCs THCGME
