Today, on Juneteenth, we honor the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas, which occurred two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. This day is a celebration of freedom for Black Americans. The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture references 6/19 as our country’s second Independence Day. At the Biller Family Foundation, we believe in the importance of equity and are committed to incorporating equity and inclusion into our work in social impact theatre, economic opportunity and supportive cancer care. Together, we can create a better world.

Our CEO Audrey Haberman is out and about-- attending the Grantmakers In Health conference. Yes! WE do believe that Health equity and Healthcare is a civil right.
The The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation is proud to be a co-sponsor of Grantmakers In Health and I so appreciate the leadership of Cara James and their staff and board for continuing to focus on health equity and healthcare as a civil right. I was inspired by the opening keynote from Kristen Clarke, Asst Atty General for Civil Rights, US DOJ. Also had a great time with new and old friends at the CEO dinner, sponsored by Camber Collective and MacArthur Foundation

Feelings of social isolation are all too common among people living with cancer. This is another reason why supportive cancer programs are essential: designed to meet the needs of the whole person and resulting in better outcomes and higher quality of life. Supportive care recognizes the value of patient navigation, support groups, and strengthening connections with family, friends, caregivers and other social networks.
