#MSHatWHA77: Today, MSH President and CEO Marian Wentworth joined Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Health for European Integration Maryna Slobodnichenko today at the #DevexCheckUp event at #WHA77 to discuss #Ukraine’s remarkable success in maintaining equitable access to #HIV, #TB, and other #essentialmedicines amid wartime challenges. Speaking through an interpreter, Deputy Minister Slobodnichenko emphasized the importance of The Last Mile Program—launched in 2019 with support from the USAID-funded, MSH-led SAFEMed Activity—which established a network of private logistics companies to handle the local delivery of medicines, vaccines, and other health commodities. This network has proven to be critical since the invasion, as it was able to adapt swiftly to changing needs and conditions. Most recently, SAFEMed worked with the government to set up a humanitarian medical supply chain, enlisting these last-mile logistics partners to help manage and distribute the large volumes of donated medicines and supplies—a system is now fully managed by the government. World #NoTobacco Day 2024: Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable deaths globally and is on the rise in Africa, particularly among young girls and vulnerable groups. Although there has been progress in adopting #tobacco control policies in sub-Saharan Africa, implementation lags behind, hindering efforts to address tobacco use and protect public health. MSH's Tobacco Policy Action Fund for Africa (TOPAFA) initiative supports African governments that are signatories to the World Health Organization Framework Convention on #TobaccoControl by providing funding and technical assistance to advance national tobacco control priorities and implement best practices through results-based grants and peer-to-peer learning. These efforts are further supported by collaborations with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and The African Capacity Building Foundation. https://lnkd.in/eBfqgaHQ #WorldNoTobaccoDay #TobaccoPrevention #StopSmoking #TobaccoKills Amy Boldosser-Boesch Micheal Adegbe Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Africa CDC Tobacco Free Generation Tobacco Control And Cessation Program

Peter Sands, executive director of The Global Fund, stressed to participants the critical role strong, integrated, and comprehensive people-centered health systems play in the fight against these formidable diseases. Rosemary Mburu, executive director of WACI Health and co-host with MSH of the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC, spoke on the importance of community engagement—centering local voices and perspectives—in the #UHC discussion to ensure no one is left behind. MSH extends a special thanks to the Government of Republic of Cote d'Ivoire and the Honorable Mr. Pierre N’gou DIMBA, Minister of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Health Coverage, for co-hosting this important dialogue. Since 2013, MSH has partnered with Côte d’Ivoire to strengthen the leadership, management, and governance of its health system and pharmaceutical supply chain, leading to reforms that have improved the availability of safe, quality-assured HIV and AIDS treatments for all Ivoirians.
