Congratulations to the 2024 ACE Mentor Program of Greater NY scholarship recipients! The generosity of the program’s corporate scholarship sponsors will help make paying for college that much easier for the ACE mentees. Construction leaders and allies, like Brennan Gilbane Koch of Gilbane Building Company, Maria Torres-Springer Deputy Mayor for Housing, Economic Development, and Workforce for the City of New York, and Elizabeth Velez of the Velez Organization, were also recognized for their contributions to NY construction during the recent scholarship luncheon. #ACE also honored the life and legacy of founder Charles Thornton, who passed away in late 2023. His daughter, Diana Eidenshink, accepted the award on her father’s behalf. Our very own CEO, Schillivia Baptiste, P.E., Assoc. DBIA is an ACE alum and a current mentor and team leader. She credits ACE as the bridge that connects the youth of this generation to the A-E-C industry and the great potential it holds. #MentoringProgram #MentorshipMatters #StudentSuccess #MWBE

Laland Baptiste CEO Schillivia Baptiste, P.E., Assoc. DBIA recently attended the annual MWBE Summit hosted by Professional Women in Construction, New York. The event highlighted the importance of MWBEs to the construction community and the need for opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses to break into the industry. The event opened with a fireside chat with Elyse Ruzow, President of Ruzow and Associates, Inc., and Doningnon Soro, PMP, Minority and Women Business Development Specialist for Empire State Development Corporation, about the certification process. The day also included two panels. The first was on Trades and Construction Management and included Michaele Watson, E.I.T. of Ecosystem Energy Services, Karen Jallah of AECOM Tishman, Deborah Jordan, CCM, LEED AP, DBIA of Hudson Meridian Group, Tracy M. of Skanska, and Nelly Vasquez of Turner Construction Company. The second panel was on Architecture and Engineering and included Michaele Watson, E.I.T., Maria De Bonis, P.E., Jean Gath of Perkins Eastman, Jeannette Segal of HOK, and David Weiss of WSP USA. We know that construction is thriving in New York City and that MWBEs play a critical role in helping the industry. #WomenInConstruction #NYCConstruction #MWBE

Here’s a little gem from when Schillivia and Robert Baptiste, our CEO and COO, brought their sons to the office for #BringYourChildToWorkDay. It’s safe to say that the boys enjoyed learning about engineering and some of our current projects. Of course they did - their parents are engineers! 👷🏾♂️👷🏾♀️🏗️ #FutureEngineers #WorkplaceLearning #NextGenerationEngineers

Yesterday's "Building Success: Women Forging Futures in Construction" webinar, hosted by Marcum LLP's Women's Construction Group, was an enlightening journey through the diverse avenues shaping women's careers in a predominately male-dominated field. The esteemed panel of successful women we learned from, Vincencia “Vee” Adusei, Schillivia Baptiste, P.E., Assoc. DBIA, Kathleen Cloud, and Dawn Meeker, CPA, showcased the power of consistency, persistence, and proving one's worth through action. Some of my key takeaways: ◾ The construction field is ripe with opportunities, welcoming those from skilled trades and various educational backgrounds to bring their unique perspectives and talents. ◾ Success in the industry is as much about expertise as it is about the drive to lead and mentor others. ◾ Although the percentage of women in construction remains in the single digits, it has doubled in the last four years, which speaks volumes about the evolving landscape and the potential for continued growth as skills and knowledge advance. It was encouraging to see the tenacity of women who often find themselves as one of the few, if not the sole, female voices in the room. ◾ Mentorship and active participation in networking groups are vital. It's not just about building structures but also connections and support systems that foster growth and advancement for women in this dynamic field. The stories shared and the progress highlighted were truly inspiring, and I look forward to following the ongoing efforts to drive transformative change in the #construction industry. #WomenInConstructionWeek #KeysToTheFuture #MarcumEverywhere
