Invent Today. Shape Tomorrow.
About us
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next-generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale. Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business and helping sellers worldwide do the same. Square is part of Block, Inc. (NYSE: SQ), a global technology company with a focus on financial services.

Two weeks ago, in Chicago, that was a blast! Got a chance to share my thoughts. It was my first NRA show since 2019 and it was fabulous to be in the mix with our industry in one place. Not to mention, Chicago is already the food capital of the world (coming from a biased Chicago native). But seriously, the city was buzzing with people (not just attendees) going out with family, friends, co-workers and just having a good time. Great to see hospitality at its best putting smiles on people’s faces. As for the event itself, it was busy busy … I am representing Square this year and probably playing catch up with all the people that I haven’t seen in a while plus the media reporters covering restaurant technology. It was packed from start to finish (yeah, I closed out the show on Tuesday!) with meaningful conversations with new and existing customers, prospective and established partners and industry insiders. Huge shout out to my team members for bringing the best of Square to Chicago for the industry to take notice - we’re pretty serious about restaurants. We demoed our newest product, Square Kiosk and totally redesigned restaurants POS. Of course we have payments, KDS, online ordering, banking and partner integrations (we have over 700!). For a panel about growth, I got to share the stage with Chris Tompkins Broad Street Oyster Co. and Amelia Lucas CNBC and talk about my restaurant group Cambridge Street Hospitality Group opening a 7th location in July powered by Square. Got some good questions, as an operator, the answer is often, “you figure it out”. Thanks to the partners who worked with us this year: Illinois Restaurant Association, Restaurant365, 7shifts, Popmenu, Raydiant, Chowly, ActiveCampaign, DAVO by Avalara and Mastercard. Great discussions with media & trade: The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, FSR, Restaurant Business Magazine, Restaurant Dive, Shawn P. Walchef, and Hospitality Technology. Notable friends (new & old) that I broke bread with: Adam Ochstein Jordan Boesch John Moody Bobby Marhamat 🌶 Brendan Sweeney Anthony (Tony) S. Roy Susan Lee Sterling Douglass Raymond Howard Jimmy Frischling Michael Schatzberg Bo Davis Jake Kalick Nagesh Koganti Joe Finizio Tammy K. Billings, MBA Li-ran N. Zachary Goldstein 🍽️Zack Oates🍕 Julio Arevalo and ran out of links!!! Uh, also, you have to eat, it’s a food show after all. Photo of me enjoying an Art Smith fried chicken sando in the West Loop. Excited for the rest of the year for Square and restaurants. We’re thinking and doing things bigger.
