Let's highlight what works to prevent #deforestation. Tropical forests are vital carbon sinks to reduce climate change impacts, but protecting them is challenging, especially with limited budgets. To encourage forest protection in southern #Mexico, IPA along with researchers Seema Jayachandran, Santiago Izquierdo Tort, and Santiago Saavedra compared the impact of paying forest-owning households to fully enroll their forested land for conservation with the current program that allows households to choose to only partially enroll their forest. Deforestation dropped by 39 percent in full enrollment compared to partial enrollment, making it 4.6 times more cost-effective and a promising approach for global forest conservation efforts. However, a government #entrepreneurship support program providing grants & training during the pandemic lent crucial support in building women’s resilience just as much as it did for men, boosting business ownership, sales, and well-being. Read more about the study conducted by IPA Kenya in collaboration with the Government of Kenya & researchers Julian Jamison, Francisco Campos Campos, Maria Hernandez de Benito, Abla Safir & Bilal Zia: bit.ly/kyeop20095
