Today marks the official start of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season. 🌀 This hurricane season – June 1 to November 30 – meteorologists and scientists from NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service, National Hurricane Center, and research institutions nationwide have predicted above-average 📈 activity, with a higher-than-normal 🚨 number of named storms, hurricanes, and major hurricanes. With storm threats ⚠️ ahead, it’s critical to ensure your household and businesses are prepared. Maintaining readiness could lessen the impact of tropical storms and hurricanes, shorten recovery time, and increase resilience for a stronger, better protected future. 📢 Throughout the season, Team IEM will be sharing weekly readiness tips to help individuals and families ensure they are prepared to weather the storms. With temperatures 🌡️ rising nationwide, the summer wildfire 🔥 season is here. During high-risk seasons, it’s critical to ensure that you and your family are informed, and you and your home 🏘️ are prepared. Below ⤵️ are some items to consider from Team IEM to help your wildfire preparedness efforts: 📲 Stay informed Keep track of any local wildfires burning in your area by signing up for or enabling emergency alerts. Here are some first steps you can take to begin your household readiness efforts: ⚠️ Know your risk Determine what risk you face in your home and the places you frequent. Remember to check if you live in or frequent flood-prone 🌊 areas. 📋 Create an emergency plan Determine your household’s steps to respond to disasters and other emergencies. Make sure everyone is familiar ✅ with your plan. 🧰 Build and maintain an emergency kit Stock up 🛒 on emergency supplies including food, water and medications for everyone in your home, including pets.
