The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has taken a significant step toward improving mental health care across the nation. In partnership with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Executive Office of the President Biden-Harris Administration has welcomed ten new states into the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Medicaid Demonstration Program1. Why Is This Important? Sustainable Funding: The program offers sustainable funding to states, enabling them to enhance mental health and substance use services. National Strategy Transformation: The CCBHC Medicaid Demonstration Program contributes to transforming our behavioral health system. It builds on previous efforts, such as the transition to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the addition of crisis services to Medicaid and Medicare. This expansion represents a critical milestone in addressing mental health challenges nationwide. By investing in CCBHCs, the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to providing better care for those who need it most.
