Foster parents are needed now more than ever before! According to the Georgia Department of Human Services, in 2023, approximately 11,000 children needed foster parents, but only 4,559 licensed foster homes existed. Christine Fonville with The Champion Newspaper spoke with CHRIS 180 and one of our foster families to learn how our inclusive training is increasing the number of licensed foster homes in Georgia and keeping siblings together. #CHRIS180 #fostercare #fosterparents #atlantafosterparents #atlantanonprofit

Our mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community.
About us
Since 1981, the CHRIS 180 mission has been to heal children, strengthen families and build community. CHRIS is an acronym that represents our core values: Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety. Our goal is to unlock the potential of Georgia’s youth and fortify families by providing a hand up, not just a handout, through our integrated Family of Services. We believe that potential is a right, not a privilege. This holistic approach enables children, youth and families to unlock their potential for happiness, health and success despite challenging circumstances, often beyond their control. We offer an array of individualized programs through our Family of Services which includes: Behavioral Health, Safe Homes & Environments, Strong Communities and Education & Training. Our ambition is to be Georgia's go-to place where every vulnerable child or traumatized youth discovers how to unlock their potential. On Saturday, June 8, CHRIS 180 was the proud beneficiary of the Happy Kids Tournaments' charity 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and Shoot-A-Thon! A young mental health advocate and avid basketball fan, 13-year-old Shyam Contractor set out to bring awareness to mental health and raise money for our services through basketball. Contractor, who is on the Autism spectrum, says he knows firsthand how important it is to have access to mental health services. Our Chief Development Officer, Elizabeth Goldberg, MA, attended the event to recognize Shyam's inspiring work and personally thank him for his generosity. Thank you to Shyam and his mother, Dhruti Contractor, for their support! If you would like to get involved with CHRIS 180, visit CHRIS180.org/donate to support our efforts. #CHRIS180 #basketballtournament #atlantaevents #fundraisingevent #atlantanonprofit

Recently, CHRIS 180 School-Based Therapist Abi Hurland, LCSW, AASW, and Training Specialist Lynne Shenk conducted a training on gender and sexuality for the City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department. The training focused on building knowledge, relationships and safe spaces to help city employees prepare for summer camps. To celebrate Pride Month, we encourage you to register for our Pride training series, which takes place every Tuesday in June and covers a range of topics on gender and sexuality. https://bit.ly/3yXfeA8 #PrideMonth #LGBTQcommunity #LGBTQIA #AtlantaPride #Atlantanonprofit

Ahead of this Gun Violence Prevention Month, CHRIS 180's Teen Violence Reduction (TVR) program welcomed the U.S. Department of Justice for a tour of their office located inside our newly reopened Westside Empowerment Center. Our team shared program updates and spoke about TVR's partnerships with local schools and other nonprofit organizations. After the tour, visitors engaged with program participants and parents during a financial literacy session led by our partner Truist. The session highlighted powerful ways that CHRIS 180 and Truist collaborate in teaching participants about the basics of money management and how to achieve financial wellness. #CHRIS180 #GunViolencePreventionMonth #TeenViolenceReduction #financialliteracy

CHRIS 180's annual Celebration of Achievement luncheon honors youth in our programs who have experienced challenges but have accomplished their goals despite adversity. Friday, clients of all ages received certificates to recognize their hard work and resiliency. The certificates acknowledged their positive behavioral changes, overcoming anxiety and milestones, such as graduating high school, starting new jobs, maintaining sobriety and much more. We want to thank our loyal donors and friends for taking time out of their day to celebrate those in the CHRIS 180 community changing the direction of their lives. We're sending a special thank you to presenting sponsor Delta Air Lines and our printing sponsor Georgia-Pacific LLC, as well as The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta for their outstanding hospitality. #CelebrationofAchievement #resiliency #CHRIS180 #Atlantanonprofit

June is National Gun Violence Prevention Month, and CHRIS 180's Cure Violence Atlanta team members have been instrumental in preventing violent crimes and saving lives! Following a recent double shooting in the Summerhill community, and our very own Cure Violence Atlanta Outreach Worker Czyz Jones was able to mediate conflicts before they escalated. His efforts involved building trust at the scene of the incident and providing support and resources to individuals at risk. This proactive strategy not only reduced threats to the community but also hopefully prevented other shootings and fostered a long-term cultural shift towards non-violence. Every June, CHRIS 180 celebrates members of the LGBTQ+ community and honors their contributions to society and equality. We are the first and largest nonprofit organization in Georgia to openly celebrate and serve LGBTQ+ youth. For nearly 42 years, we have provided a safe, inclusive space for LGBTQ youth, adults and their families. Today, we continue to fill in the gaps and provide targeted services to help LGBTQ+ young adults change the direction of their lives.
