As part of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I had the privilege of helping to plan and execute Asians and Allies In Tech (AAIT) Career Development panel at GitHub HQ sponsored by Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, my very own Braze, and many more. It was incredible to see AAIT’s mission of building cross-company communities of Asian ERGs to support each other and elevate the next generation of Asians in Tech come to life. Each member of the panel shared inspiring stories on how they overcame unique challenges faced in the workplace and within our community. 🌟Special thanks to all the incredible panelists: Angela Rapadas, Jiyon Yun, Yul Kwon, Grace Ko, and Braze's very own Ramya Sugumar🌟 Here's a few important takeaways from the panel: - Ditch the ladder, embrace the lattice. Explore sideways moves to build skills and open new opportunities. - It's okay to start over. If you're stuck, a change could lead to greater fulfillment. - Speak up, even if you're wrong. Your ideas matter, and mistakes are valuable lessons. - A lot of people search for their dream job and never find it. View your career as a portfolio of experiences, and make conscious choices to optimize for that moment. - Pick something you’re really interested in at work. Find someone who’s doing it successfully and learn from them. Figure out how to do it your way. Then help others who want to do the same thing.
