“What do you know about how kids drown in your community? What can you do to help prevent tragedy this year? Drowning is different in each community, and risk factors vary by a child’s age, developmental status and exposure to water. The multifactorial nature of drowning means one thing will never prevent it, so we need to use layers of protection.” AAP President Dr. Ben Hoffman shares drowning and injury prevention tips as we head into summer in a new @AAPNews article: https://lnkd.in/ej2NgBtV

Today is #NationalGunViolenceAwarenessDay. We #WearOrange because gun violence is a public health crisis and as long as children continue to be injured and killed by guns, pediatricians will continue to speak out to keep them safe. Today is a time to honor victims and survivors of gun violence and to spread awareness about this crisis that devastates countless families and communities every single year. AAP remains committed to reducing gun injuries to children, and advocates for stronger gun laws, comprehensive access to mental health care, and necessary funding for federal gun violence research and prevention efforts. #EndGunViolence #WearOrange

AAP is looking back at the some of the most significant moments in our long history of advocacy. The passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010 was a significant step forward for children and pediatricians. As one of our central priorities, AAP spent years advocating for inclusive healthcare policies benefiting both children and pediatricians. The ACA made a crucial difference in children's healthcare coverage, decreasing the percentage of uninsured children from 9.7% in 2009 to 4.7% in 2016.
