About us
AASCU's nearly 400 college and university members are found throughout the United States and in Guam, the Bahamas, China and Guyana. Campuses range in size from approximately 1,000 students to more than 45,000. AASCU members are found in the inner city; in suburbs, towns and cities; in remote rural America; and internationally. They are institutions of access and opportunity, believing that the promise of access and success should be real for all Americans. AASCU members are student-focused, committed to programs and policies that place students at the heart of their institution. And they are “stewards of place,” engaging faculty, staff and students with the communities and regions they serve—helping to advance public education, economic development and quality of life.

The amazing week of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Millennium Leadership Initiative was capped off by a thought-provoking lecture from my friend Timothy Mottet. We are blessed with incredible leaders who are willing to give of their time to support the next generation of leaders.

I had a great conversation Liann Herder about the new report from American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and Ithaka S+R on the assessment of civic engagement in higher education. As the report makes clear, we have much more to learn about what strategies and tactics are most effective in promoting civic knowledge and engagement among college students.

The 25th Millennium Leadership Initiative cohort is here! We’re thrilled to host these 30 #HigherEd leaders and provide them with the skills, philosophical overview, and networks necessary to advance to the highest ranks of postsecondary education. This year’s MLI participants carry the added distinction of being the initiative’s 25th cohort as we celebrate the program’s 25th anniversary. Launched in 1999 under the advisement of AASCU’s African American member presidents, MLI is a premier leadership development program designed to diversify and enrich the American college presidency. Stay tuned and follow #MLI25 for more as we celebrate this cohort and MLI’s 25th anniversary!
