Mr. Arsenio Dominguez (Republic of Panama) is the tenth elected Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization.
IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
A new free-to-access course on ballast water management is now publicly available on IMO’s e-learning platform. The course, ‘Introduction to Ballast Water Management and Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement’, is open to the public, giving all stakeholders in the maritime community and beyond the opportunity to learn about IMO's work in this area.
Indonesia is being supported by the International Maritime Organization on the steps needed to accede to the key fishing vessel safety treaty: the 2012 Cape Town Agreement (CTA). A national consultation visit held in Bali (24-28 June) took place, at the request of Indonesia, to provide expert legal and technical assistance to support the State's accession process and ensure effective compliance and implementation.
A total of 69 students from 38 countries graduated from the International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) in Malta, marking the completion of the Class of 2023-2024. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of these new maritime law professionals who are poised to make significant contributions to the international maritime community.
