3rd Gen is the Real Deal

I'd bought a 2nd Gen lock in silver because at the time the black version was in short supply. I was satisfied with it until the Bluetooth hardware inside it began to malfunction and ultimately failed.

I called customer service to try and find some technical way to fix it, but it was something that August was open and honest about (which I greatly appreciated their transparency) it being a known issue with the 2nd Gen locks. CS responded to my issue by giving me a great coupon to buy a 3rd Gen lock and assured me that this and many other issues the 2nd Gen locks had were resolved in the latest version.

My family had gotten accustomed to living with the August lock for so long that it felt weird using keys and having to fall back on the old routine of checking to make sure the door was locked before we left, etc. So, we immediately used the coupon and we finally got the black version I'd originally wanted.

It arrived WAY faster than I'd planned and installed right on top of the previously installed bracket, so it took hardly any time at all to put up. Syncing to the phone felt way faster and easier than the previous lock, and the included Door Sensor to alert you if the door isn't properly closed all the way was an incredible value added to the lock.

Now, the lock itself and the app respond much faster than before and life has resumed to what it was before. The darker color looks great against the door compared to the previous silver, so aesthetically it was a win as well. I couldn't be happier with sticking with August, especially when I can ask Google Home if my door is locked.

Thank you August, for being as forward with your customer service and for continuing to be forward looking with your products and your customer's needs. I look forward to continuing using an August lock on any home, and I've gifted one before, so I will continue to recommend it.

I want to start by saying I loved this product and told all of my friends to get one. The Geofence is the coolest technology I have ever seen. It saddens me to continue. That said, I am about eight months in using it, and the bearings in the lock are starting to fail. We even got locked out a couple of days ago. Luckily, I was able to get in through another door. I had to use some dried graphite to spray in the bearings to free it up to be able to open the door. The locked failed in a manner that even our key would not open the lock. I am about to take it apart to take a closer look, but going to see if August will honor their one-year manufacturer warranty first. I will be putting up another post on the process to let everyone know how easy or difficult this is. The main concern is I cannot just remove the lock from my front door and send it in and wait for a replacement. I am sure August has thought of this, but if not, you will all hear about it. Front doors gets used more than any other door in a home, so the quality of parts in this device is critical to long term use. I am hopeful that August will start putting better quality parts (like sealed bearing) in their next versions of this lock. If not, these issues are going to be a problem for lots of customers as these lock start aging.

I’ve had my August lock pro installed for almost 2 months now. I choose this lock because it was HomeKit compatible. All my smart home products MUST be HomeKit compatible. It was super easy to install and I haven’t had a single issue with it. Works perfectly every time. It’s never dropped off the network and the auto-unlock feature is flawless. The DoorSense sensor works very well too. The app works perfectly. Never had any issues with it. I integrated it with HomeKit and it works beautifully. I use my Apple TV as my bridge and the lock response promptly and perfectly from anywhere! My wife and I love it. Can’t praise this product enough.

I bought the smart lock pro and doorbell several months ago. Super simple to install. I especially love the geofencing feature which Auto Unlock’s when I arrive home. Doorsense is especially useful so I know the door is locked behind me and the ability to adjust the auto lock timing feature. Integration with Amazon Alexa, IFTTT and Apple’s Siri allow all household members to use seamlessly.

Customer service is outstanding when I had a small issue with connection with my router.

Definitely recommend !

My best household smart product so far!
